breastfeeding/working moms

posted 8th Jul
(I am posting this again because I didn't get a lot of responses last time...)

I am planning on breastfeeding, but as I am getting closer I am getting very nervous about going back to work and continuing. BUT I really want to! So, those of you that work and breastfeed, can you tell me about your experience with it...(how often you have pump at work, how often your baby eats, are you happy with your decision to continue bfing...etc) I know all babies are different, but I just want to get some ideas. I will be going back to work after only 6 weeks home with my baby I am so sad about that, but finanacially it's the only way.
Any help/suggestion/ideas areappreciated!

same reason why i came back to work $$$.
I have been exclusively pumping since forever because my baby doesn't latch on well no matter what i do. i pump almost the same amount of times that my baby eats. I usually pump every 3 to 3.5 hours when i'm at work. i get in at 8:30am i usually pump before i leave for work and then i pump at 10:30,12:30,4:00 and then like at 7 and so on... yes it's hard in the begining you will get use to it and it is so worth it

I worked full time and pumped every two hours on the dot! I didn't get up in the middle of the night just because my son got up every two hours to feed during the night so there was no need.
It worked out very well for us I ended up breastfeeding for a full year. I totally think its worth it! The beginning is the worst part of it but your already past that - this point on isn't bad. Its so rewarding too! Good luck dear! Just message me if you have any more questions I am more than happy to help out if i can!

I am thinking about breastfeeding and pumping at work too. I have a question for everyone who did. Are your employers okay with you pumping every two hours? Has any body had any problems with their bosses not understanding? Also, do you know if there is a law allowing mothers to pump at work to protect our rights?

In Minnesota I know that they can NOT prevent me from pumping. Its protected by law.

Thanks! I am sure I will have more questions once he's here. You probably just have to sort of get into a routine of things. But, I bet you are super tired everyday at work! Did he wake up every two hours for an entire year?

Oh, by the way...I am naming my son Jaxon! I like your spelling, but our last name is Nelson so I decided to spell it Jaxon.

Yes he did. Some days I got lucky and he would sleep four hours straight - but the week he turned one we were fully weaned and he was sleeping thru the night. All on his own - no CIO

Hi there! With my daughter, I brought her to work with me until she was 4 months old and then, I went home to the day care to feed her four times a day, spaced evenly. My daughter REFUSED a bottle so I took my breaks to go home to feed her. It worked out just fine! My day care was amazed because they never had a mother do that before...But, I would do anything for my daughter. My clients at work completely understood if I wasnt in when they called because they all supported breastfeeding. My boss also is very understanding. YAY for breatfeeding! Even if you are pumping, do it!! It is so good for your baby!

Thanks! I know it is so good for the baby...there are soooo many positives, but I am just so worried about the work thing. I teach 4K and I have 2 classes. There always has to be 2 adults in the room to make ratio and I just hope I am able to sneak out to pump. My days are already so packed and busy, and my lunch break is setting up for the pm class for a lot of it!
I know it will be hard, but I am going to give it my best shot for sure.

Hugs, sweetie. I think its great you want to bf, what a wonderful gift for your baby (with lots of benefits for you too!).

My biggest advice for any mama who wants to bf is to attend a local Le Leche League meeting *while you are pregnant*, these mamas know *everything* about bfing in pretty much any situation and are so knowledgable on the entire process! Good luck!

Thanks! I'll have to google that and see where one is around here. I know I have heard of it before. I also had a breastfeeding class at the hopsital where I will be delivering. Thanks so much again for you help!
