The Jailhouse Incident (!)

posted 8th Jul
well,me and the boys crossed a milestone today. One I never thought I'd cross. My youngest son,Donavin, has in the last few months been stealing . He only did it a couple of times from my brother. It was Nintendo DS games. Well,he got in BIG trouble!! No TV,no video games,no friends over,I even gave him 3 licks for it and I'm not real big on spanking. I mean I don't think it's the answer to everything. Anyway, the past 4th of July weekend I noticed he had some games I didn't reconize. Donavin told me he traded a friend some games b/c he finished some of the ones he had. He does that sometimes so I didn't think too much about it. Well, his cousin called and said he couldn't find some of his games. I KNEW right then what happened ! OHHHHH I was so mad! My oldest son,Christopher,I found out knew he did it but didn't tell me ! So me and the boys dad took a little trip uptown to see an officer I knew (I know his wife and the boys go to school with their sons). We talked to the officer and told him what was goin on. The Officer hada LOOOOONG talk with the boys and showed them aroundthe jail and showed them their "new bedroom" if it happened again! He showed them on the PC how they've locked up kids their age for doing what they was doing. Their dad when to the very back with the boys and the officer. It was hard watching my boys do that but I DON'T want them growing up and going that rout. It was one of the hardest thing's I've done as a mom. The boys came back from the cell's with tears in their eyes . They wern't really "crying" but you could tell they was taking all if it VERY seriously,as they should have!! They just happened to be letting someone out of jail while we were up front and he seen my watery eyes as they went back. He actually stopped the boys and told them he wished when he was little he would have someone who cared enough about him to bring him up there when he was a kid and he may not have ever had to go "to the back". I was like     I was shocked, touched, and really I don't know what I was supposed to feel. I NEVER did this as a kid and I just never imagined my boys would do this. Even their cousin (who's a little older) told me it was ok. Everyone told me,"oh,their just kids" or "well they'll do that" but I WILL NOT tolerate this from them!! Of course they're mad at me but I don't care! They know I love them. VERY MUCH and I hope they remember this the next time they think of taking something that DOSEN'T belong to them!! I just wanted to get that off my chest girls! SEE?!?! Having kids DON'T get easier

i hope so too. Yeah, the town we live in only has like 3,000 people. The cops arn't that busy,or at least I think they're not lol. I was glad the officer was who he was,he has boys that age so I know he knows how to talk to em lol

it was hard lol! to watch your babies walk back to the jail cells  . I had to turn around at one point so they wouldn't see tears in my eyes. The officer also told them to apologize to me "your mamma" he said. For making me go through this. I was like  . WOW!

Better they get the shock now than you to get the shock at 3am when they want bail. Right?

RIGHT!! I'm ashamed to say this but when I was younger,I went to jail too. I was like 20 though. I didn't go for stealing, I went for fighting and let me tell you....jail is NOOOOOO fun lol!! One time is all it took for me. I don't EVER wanna go back. I know what it's like and I don't want that for the boys but I told them when we left if I EVER hear of them even THINKING of taking another thing,I'll hall their little asses up ther MYSELF and they WON'T be comming home that night. I don't think I'd do that but I had the fear of God in them so they don't know that LOL

i have a question.. how do you feel about telling your kids about your past..like you said you went to jail...i never went to jail but from when i was 16 to when i was 19 ive been arrested a good 5-6 times.. and ive been on probation now for 2 years...im not sure if i want to tell my kids when there a little older about that or not.. but i feel maybe if they know that ive been through things and ive lived and learned that they can come to me with problems..my arrests have been from stealing to drugs to fighting.. and im NOT proud at all at what ive done..but i had to learn..

Well,I never mentioned it until now. I hate they have to know that about me but in this situation, I just sat them down and firmly explaned to them that ANYTHING we do carries consequences. Good or bad. And some of the bad choices we make can haunt us for a VERY long time! I told them they don't want a reputation for being thieves b/c even if they stop and stuff comes up missing, they're gonna be the first people everyone's gonna look at. Mom had to learn a few things the hard way and I know they're better than that. I told them I don't expect them to be and act perfect. NOBODY is perfect and we all mess up from time to time. But I DON'T expect this to happen again, and if it does, they're gonna have to step up and take responsibility for what they done

Haha, my parents told me if I ever did anything that bad they'd turn me in themselves.

Good thing they never caught the bad stuff I did. I never hurt or took from anyone. I had morals, though I've done bad stuff. LOL. isn't that hypocritical?
