YMCA Reduced Membership Fees: Follow-Up

posted 7th Jul
When I posted a couple weeks ago about the YMCA offering financial assistance, many of you asked me to let you know if my application was accepted and how much aid I got. My situation is that my boyfriend and I live in government housing, paying about half of the $576 rent/month. I went to school, but am no longer enrolled in school and am too far along to work. My boyfriend works at a Thortons. On the application I said I could afford to pay $15/month at the most (the dues are normally $48/month). I recieved a letter today saying my dues are covered at 75%, meaning $12/month for me...+ free day care while I work out. Membership includes the pool, the gym, etc. Basically everything except special classes like fencing, swim lessons, yoga, etc. SO...check it out ladies!

I have a question how hard was it to get government housing?

Aside from providing endless amounts of paperwork, not hard. I knew we'd qualify with me being pregnant and unemployed and my boyfriend working at a convenience store. You basically have to prove that you don't havea lot of money (that means pay stubs, verification from the employer, bank statements, an estimation of bills, etc.) It only becomes annoying if you're in college, which I was at the time we applied. Because then you have to prove you're not getting too much money in loans and prove that you're not just trying to get cheap student housing. I would definitely look into it! And our apartment is really nice...you can't tell it's government housing at all. I'd be happy to have it paying full price if we could afford it.

Wow that's awesome, I would love to go to Bally's but the $40 for the first month then $20 for every month after that is too much. We have enough things to pay off.

There's a YMCA here in town, I'll look into it. I want to work-out!

I'm jealous! I wish we had a YMCA here!!! I would LOVE to be able to afford a gym membership... but there is no way i'm paying 40$ a month to work out.

Part of the reason I'm willing to pay anything at all is that I want to exercise but am too afraid to be out walking or jogging while pregnant or even when Isabella gets here. We live in a big city and in a part of town that's...I dunno...not necessarily dangerous but questionable at times. The Y offers a lot of prenatal stuff, mommy & me type of stuff...but I can't afford it (since they're classes they got in addition to membership).

I applied for housing and I've called and everything and my application still hasn't been reviewed. It's been almost three months! And congrats on the Y. I want to get a membership there after I have the baby. We used to get it free through my mom's work but when I turned 18 they wouldn't do it for me naymore.

Same here, I want to work out...but I'm afraid to go out alone. My "friends" are all bitches who are too good for me now. They never call, never come by, never even went to my baby shower or his baptism either. From now on, I go to school for an education...not friends. And I don't even bother to ask any of them if they wanna be my work-out buddy.

And my bf is too lazy to work out with me, lol. So I would love to have a safe place to work out by myself, which I can afford.

The whole process of applying, getting paperwork, and moving in took less than a month. I know it's different state by state, but I'd try going IN to the place. Our woman takes like a three hour lunch break and won't answerthe telephone. Be a bully!

I've lost a lot of friends since I got pregnant too. I guess we're just not as fun anymore.

I moved towns, otherwise my friends would be there for me I'm sure. Although I think it's hard for them to relate...once you're expecting your priorities and your life change and theirs still haven't. My boyfriend works and hates summer anyway, lol. Good luck finding a buddy! Maybe get a prenatal DVD? I've done those. Wear me out.

Me neither. Even though I have an interview tomororw. And since I won't be enrolled next semester I'm technically not a student.
