Formula to Milk

When did you start giving your child[ren] whole milk . .
Did you ask you doctor if it was okay ?
Do you give them cow's, or goat's milk ? Which one is "better" for them?

I hate using formula && I want to get Nia using whole milk instead of formula.

I think the typical age is at 1 year you can introduce cow milk...I'm not sure about goat's milk. I would check with your pediatrician though, just in case  !

I gave my babies whole milk at 11 months and 12 months...

Talk to your doctor but I have heard fortified goats milk is actually better. Check for it at your local health food or organic place.

If you introduce cow's milk to them before 1 year old theres a better chance of allergies. Also, their tummies aren't ready for that yet. It's too hard to break down.

Braden will be 1 on Wednesday and I just started giving him milk. I called the doctor first and the nurse told me that since he was so close to 1 that I could go ahead and switch. I haven't fully switched over though. I make about 2-3 oz and mix the rest with whole cow's milk. unitl he is adjusts.

I just asked the perdiatrician about this..  ... cuz apparently I gave my oldest cow's milk too soon. He told me that you can't give them just plain cow's milk before a year old...but at about 11 months he suggested I start mixing it in her formula to get her used to it....I am not sure about Goat's milk though...sorry

12 months is suggested, you could probably start the transition earlier. Do 1/4 milk to 3/4 formula. Then 1/2 and 1/2. Then 1/4 formula to 3/4 milk. Then all milk at 12 months.

As for goats milk versus cows milk. From what I have researched goats milk is lacking in some vitamins that cows milk has. But if your child is a good eater, veggie wise then it isn'ta problem. You can also supplement with vitamins.

I wasn't just gonna cut Nia off on formula. I was gonna do the whole transition thing first. Just so her belly gets used to it.

I just introduced Ayane to 2%
Yesterday (Sunday) ( 11months , 3 weeks )

I gave her 2oz .

Wednesday I will give her 4oz .

Friday 6oz .

& Sunday (Her 1 year birthday) I hope she drinks 8oz .

I was told at her 9 month appt.. Diary products were FINE.. But NO MILK UNTIL 1 YEAR ..

2 wks BEFORE Hailey's birthday, she had been bottle/formula broke for a couple of weeks and I wanted to introduce milk.

I didn't call her dr cause I would of had to get an appt and wouldn't been able to get one before her 12 month appt anyway.. So I went and started.

I told the dr at her 1yr appt that I started milk 2 wks early cause she was formula/bottle broke and he said that was VERY GOOD.

I introduced Hailey to 2 % milk at first cause thats what we were drinking.

When we picked up our WIC vouchers we got WHOLE Milk.. WIC gives us 4 1/2 gallons of whole milk a month. . Only Hailey drinks it so it goes to waste even though she likes milk. (I want her to drink water and a tiny bit of juice during the day also).

Hailey was on lactose free formula so I worried she would have trouble going from formula to milk..but she went straight from formula to milk w/out a problem.

I think when they're 12 months+ it's okay .
I Introduced her to 2% just in case , since I don't see her pedi till monday .

When I went for his 6 month shots, the health nurse told me that I could start whole milk at 9 months. I questioned it, because in prenatal they said 1 year, but she said that it had just recently been changed. Then I asked the doc at his 9 month appt and she okay'd starting whole milk at 9 months. I know it goes against what everyone else said, but that's what I was told.
