ok, checking your cervix--TMI, but I am scared!!

posted 6th Jul
I am 10 weeks pregnant with 2 previous miscarriages. I checked my cervix and it feels like it is open a little (like a fingerwidth) not much, but I am afraid I am going to m/c. I hate calling the doctor cause I am thinking they will think I am some kind of weirdo for checking myself, but I also feel like the doctor has not really been concerned with this pregnancy. I had the 2 m/c within the last year, and so far this pregnancy I have had 1 ultrasound (at my request) which was ok, but I dont' go see the doctor til the 17th of July. I have no spotting or cramping, but my morning sickness is not as bad and I am not as tired. I don't know if this is coincidence I am feeling better cause I am getting closer to the end of my 1st trimester, but I have no clue! I am worried and almost feel as though I should go get checked, but will anyone else think this is an emergency???? Any feelings on this?

I wouldnt check yourself... that can cause contractions, bleeding, labor etc. If you are worried go to the ER or call your doctor. If you dont trust your doctor find another!

Do not check your cervix unless you are closer to term. If you're not careful it can put you into labor.

You need to relax.... Stress is horrible on the body.

Also, I don't think checking yourself is a great idea. You can get an infection and that can be bad for the pregnancy.

If your really worried I would get it checked out. Stressing about it could make it worst. For piece of mind call your doctor. Mine has always told me that if I'm worried about anything to call.

I have heard of alot of other people who check their cervix, but I didn't know if anyone else had this. I live in a small town and you have to call the ob department to get a doctor and I just hate bothering them for stupid things. I didn't know if anyone else had this.

I've checked mine before, but not until I was way farther than 10 weeks. Its just not safe so early in pregnancy. If you're concerned then its best to go to a doctor. Good luck and I hope everything is ok.

I've known alot of people check their cervix when they are TTC, but not when they are in their 1st, 2nd trimester or even the beginning of the 3rd trimester. I suppose the only "good" time to check is near the end of the pregnancy because if it does bring on contractions or make you bleed you could go into labor naturally anyways.

But right now you are taking a big risk for preterm labor and/or infection. Infection can destroy a healthy pregnancy quick.

You are probably just feeling the tip of your cervix. It is swollen now & it may feel like it is open, but I doubt you are able to check it like your doctor would. It's not the tip of the cervix that is checked, but the entire thing. A fingerwidth is a few cm, I think, but I really would bet that you are only feeling the tip of your cervix. You would have been able to get your finger into it if it were dialated & you would be contracting to get it that dialated. Try not to worry.

Thanks girls...I will see if I can get ahold of one of the docs. I just feel like I am not having as many appointments and ultrasounds as I should because of my history. If I would not have asked for an ultrasound a few weeks ago, I would not have had one yet.
