no. I couldn't breastfeed because of the anti-anxiety medications I'm on. We are waiting until 2 years because thats the approximate time that babies brain development is more complete.This is the schedule we are following:


No vaccinations until a child is two years old. No vaccines that contain thimerosal (mercury). No live virus vaccines (except for smallpox, should it recur). These vaccines, to be given one at a time, every six months, beginning at age 2: Pertussis (acellular, not whole cell) Diphtheria Tetanus Polio (the Salk vaccine, cultured in human cells)


Aidan DOES take a formula with added DHA though...

btw The Vaccine book by Dr. Sears is a really great source of information isn't it??!! I'm sooo glad I got it!!

I was just curious about the breastfeeding because it is said to give added immunity.
I wasn't aware that there was an ind. pertussis vaccine. I have no interest in giving Lennon the Diptheria or Tetanus until he is olderbut whooping cough is so dangerous in infants that I feel I should give him that. But my doc said that they had to be combined. Where did you find a doc that was cool with your delayed vaccine schedule? I have to fight my doc about mine and it isn't even that extreme!! Stupid Ohio docs.!Your baby is so cute by the way!

me too, I never buy books new- but I bought that one new and I am so glad that I did!! It saved me days of research! i love all the Sears family books. They gave a name to the parenting style I naturally adopted which was awesome!

There are exceptions to every rule. I won't preach to anyone but I do feel strongly about this vaccine. Many times the virus is mild but other cases(like my daughters) are extremely violent and life threatining. The virus is so contagious and can be picked up anywhere. Whatever you decide to do just be careful who touches your child and wipe down grocery carts. My doc said that most likely where she picked it up at.Whoever previously used that cart didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom.

Oh the dr we saw for Aidan's 2 month appointment basically acted like every single thing I do as a mother is wrong... lol, but he was just an ass... and we go to the Navy Hospital so I don't expect that they will ever be ok with anything that isn't completely by routine... but I just remind them that the current vaccine schedule is merely the CDC's RECOMMENDED schedule... and I thank them for their recommendation however I choose to follow another... and I did go off of medications for a little while right before and after Aidan was born to be sure he could be given untainted colostrum...

Gross- I am sorry that your daughter got so sick!!! I know the incidence of him getting rotavirus is far more likely than him getting a reaction from the vaccine. How did you know it was rotavirus with your daughter?

My doc is being such a pain about this whole thing- but there is only one doc that I have foudn around here that doesn't bug you for not following the mainstream and my insurance doesn't cover him.
My friends hubby is in the Air force and her doctor's are soooo bad too. They think they know everything!

uggh I know the military hospitals want to do everything by the book and I haven't had too much trouble with other dr's but this guy was suuuuch a jerk... and the worst part is that because he's a chief and I'm nothing more than a 3rd classes wife, I'm a nobody...

OMG I would have flipped out on that f@cker. You are a much nicer person that me!!! Hopefully you switched docs. They think they know everything but most know less about vaccines then anyone who has read the Vaccine book. They hate anyone that doesn't fit into mold because it makes their jobs harder. Lazy bum that is what he is. Good for you for standing up to him!

Aidan is seeing ANOTHER pediatrician we've never seen before but hopefully my hubby will be able to be at the next appointment and now I know just what kind of stuff might be thrown at me and I can go in more confident and prepared... I plan on having a copy of the vaccination schedule and probably every piece of information I can. I've been doing a lot of constant research everywhere I can for about 7 months now so I have A LOT to present if they ask...
