Wow, that's pretty messed up! I believe the limit here is $800 dollars, but I'm not sure what complications the child would have to have to get that much. I think it might only be based on income. You definitely should be getting as much as you can!

Yup it sucks, child support (all parents earning under $100,000 per year get it) is about $150 a month. That is what i use for my lunch money in hospital lol

As far as I know EVERY baby is drug tested at birth. Its not a racial thing. Its to make sure the mother wasn't doing drugs during pregnancy and had a drug addicted baby. You can't put anything past anyone. I've actually come across a couple people in my life who did drugs while pregnant and had drug addicted babies... EXTREMELY sad but true. The hospitals here always test and if the baby test positive social services comes and takes the baby away when its born. Don't take offense to it and don't think your the only one.

Alot of people have posted on this subject butI will give you my experience. My son wasborn @ 24 weeks and weighed 1 lb 4 oz. The infoI was given stated that low birth weight and prematurity can be considered a disability therefore qualifying the child for SSI. The criteriaI received was birth weight less than 1200 grams ( 2 lb 10 oz) or birthweight between 1200 and 2000 grams and SGA. While they are in the hospital you only get $30. After they come home it is based on your income. The max we can get in NC is $637 and you automatically receive medicaid but we get $113.83 and medicaid bc of income. The wayI understand normally they evaluate again after 3 years but in the case of an infant their condition can inprove soo quickly they evaluate at a 1 year at that point it depends on their condition as well as income. My son just turned a year on 6/27 so we should be hearing something soo.I am not sure if he will requalify or not. He is still underweight andon oxygen and an apnea monitor and receives ST, OT and PT weekly bc of delays and feeding issues. i am not sure if even this enough though but I guess we'll see soon.

actally i was told i could get soical secitry cheecks just for the fact that she was a premiee and born so early. My soical worker filed the paper work. A week later i got in touch with them , and they pulled my file and asked me questions. They told me i would be getting sent a wavier to relase medical records to them which i signed and sent back and to bring the BC when i got it. So next week its heading down there for me
