my life with a colic baby!

posted 6th Jul
ohh mann...
Its a busy life witha colic baby!
Things seem to be getting better now that I switched to the Nutramigen formula!
Trying to find the best bottle for him though...he is picky and I dont want to give him anything with BPA!
He started out on the boob, which I had to stop giving to him because he cant digest fats very well, and it made him scream. Had to switch to formula. Tried Similac Soy...he screamed, Enfamil Lipil...screamed....Good Start Soy...screamed....finally I gave in a tried the Nutramigen. I swear it made a world of difference.
I was using the Gerber bottles, but I had a problem with nipple collapse, so I switched to Playtex Vent Aire advanced, they are great, but a pain in the ass to clean, and both had BPA. Went yesterday to pick up some Playtex dropins, and he HATED them, he drinks about 5oz, but he would fall asleep at 3, wake up and scream, and it took him forever to drink it...over an hour! He was SOO fussy today, so we were thinking about just giving up and going back to the VentAire, but then we say the Born Free, and we decided to try them. at $22 for 2, its crazy expensive! Plus almost $30 a can for his formula...he is milking us dry!
BUT I dont mind it, it has made a world of difference! He is less gassy and fussy, and happier!
I love my boy! I cant even believe that he is going to be 6 weeks tomorrow!

Wow. I'm definitely thankful that I didn't deal with colic! At least you know it doesn't last forever. Keep up the good work mama.

haha I dont mind to much, I just want him to be happy!
I have like a zillion half empty cans of formula sitting around my house though.
If these Born Free bottles work out, Im going to try and sell my Vent Aire set, the Gerber set, and try and return the dropins.
SHEESH!
To Top that all off...I live in a SMALL apartment complex...and only have one wahser and dryer in the laundry room. We went in to do laundry tonight because we are getting some professional pictures done tomorrow...and he needs something clean to wear!
Well...the washer is broken...its filled up with yellowish greenish brownish water and wont drain...
great!!

Thank you!
I kept saying NAH it isnt colic..he is just fussy because te formula is constipating him...or he isnt eating enough...or something...but it turns out he has a fat digestion problem (like me) and colic...
at least I know whats wrong for sure now so I can try and fix it.

oh man! We bought gripe water...
and colic tablets...
and mylicon...
nothing worked!
He used to spit up basically the whole bottle after every feeding...even if I burped him 10 times during the feeding!
Doctor said add .5-1 teaspoon of rice cereal to his bottle...and wham-o! No more spitting up!

we put Jett on cows milk at 6 months and he was fine after that... no more vomiting (which is really stinky when formula fed) and he wasnt always in pain and screaming all the time.. I would feel sooo bad for him with his little legs scrunched into his tummy

yes he does the scrunchy thing too!
Those dropins were so AWFUL for him! He just started feeling better, and then we gave him those new bottles, and it made everything bad for him again! I just keep saying im sorry and it will pass in a day or so and you will be feeling better again!
Oh my poor baby!
You started him on cows milk or goats milk?

try avent bottles. i know they are bpa-free and help reduce colic. i use dr browns, they're a pain to clean all the parts, but they seem to do wonders for my baby. if you add anything to the fornula (rice cereal) remember to get faster flow nipples. i do 1tsp rice/oz and use stage 3 of the dr. browns. Not sure if the plastic bottles are listed as BPA-free, but they do make glass bottles. (and all parts are dishwasher safe!)

cows milk I let the doctor know and he said fine.. I mean I figured he was in that much pain that what harm could it really do... people had suggested goats milk though lucky us cows milk was fine....

I just checked the website for avent bottles and they do have BPA in them, unless you use the dropins, and the liner doesnt have the bpa, but the bottles do. They are introducing a BPA free bottle at the end of this year though!
The glass bottles dont, but I really dont want to use glass if I can help it.
The wide neck Dr. Browns are impossible to find, and he will only drink from wide bottles...the boobie suck-alikes haha
I like the vent system in the Born Free bottles, its really cool, and they arent that hard to clean thankfully.
