passports for infants??

In September I will be going to Canada with my son who will be 4 months. Does anyone know if I need to get him passport or will his birth certificate and social security card work???

You don't need a passport to go to Canada.

I know that I needed my US passport to walk over the Canadian border last month. I'm not sure of the criteria for infants. 

We dont need a passport to go to Canada (at least I didnt use one when I went to Niagra a few years ago, just showed my license

That's where I was. They just changed it.

I believe you have to get them one. I took my son to cancun when he was 11 months old and he had to have one, they told me his bc and ss card wouldnt work. but idk about canada.

To cross into Canada I'm almost certian you still only need the BC and SS card. For us to drive into the States (and drive back into Canada) we need photo ID and another piece of ID. To fly to the US we need a passport.

Yes I think this is right. I just googled it and for the most part everything I found says that if you travel by air you need a passport but if you travel by land you dont....

I am going to call someone (dont know who to call) just to be sure though because I sure would hate to get to the border and be turned away

It said this under travel on that page:

Beginning January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate, or a passport. Children age 18 and under will be able to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.
Note: Children age 18 and under will need to present a birth certificate, naturalization certificate or a passport to enter the U.S.

It said if flying you need a passport.
