Quoting MandiJo:“ Good Question! I"d like to add, any of you that didn't switch to formula and love breastfeeding now, did you think you would switch(before you got comfortable breastfeeding)?”If I hadn't of had my pump, I'm sure I would have switched. I just got sooo sore and couldn't take his improper latch anymore. Now though, I am SO glad I stuck with it. He started latching like a champ at 1 month old and we've been doing great ever since. It makes me proud to know my son has never had anything but breastmilk and that I can provide that for him.

When I first had her in the hospital I was alone in my room with her and she was hungry and we were both getting frustrated so I would have just given her a bottle, but the nurse wouldnt answer my call light to bring me formula! But thank goodness she didn't because of that I figured out how to get her to latch right and we have been doing good since then.
Quoting mamacj:“ Why are you thinking of switching? Not being catty, just curious.”
Quoting LiL_DucKy08:“ Same problem, shes having a latching on problem with one side, i just cant seem to get it "up and going" ... [snip!] ... hour and i just dont think i can take the pain. Im not going to switch cause i would feel very guilty, i just wanted to know.”What kind of pump do you have? I know how you feel...it is so hard to take the time to pump especially when you are exhausted and just want to get some sleep. It does get easier though, I promise! And the eating every hour only lasts a short time, thankfully. I had the exact same problem, he hated nursing on the one side and we still have problems occasionally with it, though now I think it is because it produces less than the other so he gets mad.

I remember the last time I nursed before switching completely to the pump...I was in so much pain and he was so hungry and just screaming at me. I was crying, he was crying, it was terrible. I thought "you know, this is supposed to be a bonding experience, not miserable torture." I am definitely NOT a breastfeeding nazi because of that experience. I understand why women switch to formula sometimes. I started pumping then and it was so much better, if more time consuming. Now though, I love the fact that I can either nurse him or offer a bottle of breastmilk.
Quoting LiL_DucKy08:“ i bought the gerber manual pump. I am happy to say shes doing alot better then she was a few days ago. ... [snip!] ... it could just be me stressing out, and its not helping any =/ But i AM bound and determined to stick with the breastfeeding.”Also, be sure to eliminate a gas problem. I knew NOTHING about babies when I had my son and forgot about the burping part . Turns out, he just had really bad gas which infants cannot distinguish between gas pains and hunger pains. But right now, she is probably just helping to establish your milk supply which is why she is cluster feeding.
