infected c-section incision??

posted 5th Jul
Hey i was wondering if any of you other c-section mamas had this happen to your incision..

well the day before yesterday (i was 8 days PP) i noticed that my incision was leaking a little bit of blood in two areas, i didnt think much of it because it was only two lil spots. Then yesterday, when i was using the bathroom i saw on the pad that there was yellowish pus and more blood.   i called my aunt (who is an RN) and she told me that its possible that the incision is infected... so this morning when i woke up i noticed the pus had a foul odor, and was leaking even more pus so i called Labor & Delivery and told them what was going on, they told me to come in to have it checked. they asked if i had any hot/cold flashes and if i was running a fever, i told them no. they said they'd like to come in and check it out... Soo i went in and they took my temperature, which was normal, no fever   then they looked at my incision which the OB said looked GREAT. he asked me if i was cleaning the area and i told him no, because i thought moisture would make it more septible to an infection, he told me no, and that i needed to clean it everyday. Since i'm 10 days PP he told me that today was the day for my steri-strips to come off ( i got disolvable stitches btw) so he took them off and told me everything looked great and that i was healing up well.

WELL since he took the steri-strips off i've noticed an increase in the pus/blood on the pad thats protecting my incision...hmm, does this sound normal to you? did anyone else have pus and blood that leaked from ur incision in the first weeks following ur c-section?

if the puss is not clear yellow, its not a good thing. and if its bleeding
thats usually a sign of infection.
mine is infected but im 1 month pp
you should deffinitly get to a docs. you dont want that thing getting worse cause mine is infected abd it makes the entire surounding area very sensitive.
and if you get it treated fast. thats alot less time to deal withthe pain of the healing and now maybe infection

my incision never leaked anything. It was slightly red on one side and my doctor gave me antibiotics to prevent an infection,I already had another surgery scheduled so I couldn't get an infection or I wouldn't be able to have the next surgery. It really doesn't sound normal to me, I'd see another doctor.

I was glued.. and never had anything "drain" out of my incision... If the puss has a foul odor than that is a sure sign of infection.

My incision did the same thing BUT I was allergic to the staples.
Are you allergic to adhesives or anything?

i honestly don't know. But i know that medical tape adhesive always irritates my skin whenever drs apply it.

I don't understand why the dr would tell me that everything looks WONDERFUL and GREAT if everyone else is saying it doesnt sound right...   it makes me kind of nervous... i have an appt for baby with my primary care dr on Monday. I'm going to ask her to look at it. i just hope the OB at Labor and Delivery knew what he was talking about....now i'm scared all over again.

My cousin looked at mine and said that the reason it does that is because of the allergic reaction causes it to come through the incision. And shes a RN. So I trusted her and always got a second opinion through my OB.
Should be fine if you're not running a fever or feeling weird.

Hmmm... I, like you, recieved disolvable stitches, so all you could see was the butterfly strips. I KIND of have the same prblem as you (my c-sect was about 7 weeks ago) at one of the edges its like one of the stitches came out or something and it started to open a little. My ob just told me to put a band-aid over it and it shoulld be ok... but it does get pussy (i really dont think i spelled that right!!!! lol) every now and then so I dont know??
