i dont think we should use anything to induce at home ive noticed that the more anxious we get and the more birth shows we watch we get impatient. i have contractions every 3 to 5 min with 2 centimeters and 50% effaced and i got sent home. they wont admit u if ur not 4 cent. i think we should wait and forget how bad we want to have the baby in our arms.. am sure u are curious so am i but if our babies want to stay in is for a reason! my 5 year old was born at 36 weeks because my water broke.. all pregnancy are different however my advise dont try any weird thing it might end up in a c-section .. if u dont make sense to u or i make u feel backi dont mean to i just think i feel the same way as u . i want answers and ive looked and asked just like you however it wont help us any. my husband already thinks am going crazy and when i say we should go to the hospital he says leave her alone babe shes not ready!! lol

primrose oil will not induce your labor...
It will ripen your uterus so that you have an easier labor.
I took it for Lily (I don't remember how much.. 2 capsules a day, one in morning, one at night)
My labor was only four and a half hours
And it took me two contractions to push her out
I think it helped. I suggest to start taking it at, week 36 or 37

What is it I have never heard of it!!

I dont like the idea of inducing, I believe my little guy will come when hes ready wether it be a week early or 2 weeks late, but I am all for making that actual labor easier!!

Is it totally safe?

"Evening primrose oil is a commonly used method of naturally preparing the body for labor. It does not directly induce labor, as commonly believed. Evening primrose oil acts as a prostaglandin, which ripens and softens the cervix. The ripening of the cervix can help the baby’s head engage deeper into the pelvis, which can help with dilation."

The way I see it, and what I honestly think from what I learned (I read up on this stuff for like, 2 weeks before I had Lily) is that your body WILL NOT go into labor if you try to naturally induce it... It will only going into labor if it is READY & needs a little help. If you start taking the primrose oil, it'll ripen your cervix, but will NOT put you into unsafe pre-term labor.
And if you're already 37 weeks, you are considered term anyway, so labor after 37 weeks isn't preterm.

I'll look for more information to give you about it, one second.

It's basically, natural oils that your body uses to keep your uterus in good condition. I'm pretty sure it's good for endometriosis too.

Yea, definitely.
If the prostaglandins DO put you into labor, you'll be okay cause you're term...
I don't think they will, though.. I think it's only enough to help ripen/soften your uterus... if your body decides to go into labor, I really don't think it would be the oils' fault lol.

Sounds safe to me! I am gonna bring it up to my Dr on Monday, then if she doesnt have anything against it go get some and start it right away!

I've started taking evening primrose oil from 37 weeks. The midwife said it was fine, infact it might help soften my cervix as nothing seems to be happening. I'm feeling frustrated to say the least, so if it helps I'll be glad.

I've been taking it since 36 weeks. It has helped soften and thin my cervix. I wouldn't take it if i didn't think it was safe, but a lot of the nurses I work with recommended it. (I'm an ob nurse) I take one 1000mg capsule at bedtime, vaginally. It works best that way, but you can take it orally too if you like.
