Dehydrated

posted 5th Jul
Tomorrow I'll be 38 weeks pregnant and after two days of nausea about a little over a week and a half ago and afterwards diarrhea until now, I'm dehydrated. My lips are chapped and my tongue is cracked when I wake up and it hurts throughout the day. I'm drinking more water now but it's not going away. Has this happened to anyone?

I'm not far enough yet, but my GF had those same exact issues in her last few weeks. She and her Chapstick were like.. inseperable. And to get rid of the dry mouth, she stocked up on hard candies, anything to keep her mouth from feeling gross and dry and hurting. She liked the Werther's, Jolly Ranchers, things like that. Because they are sweet they will cause your mouth to water, which will help with the tongue being chapped and such. And your lips.. just lots of chapstick!! Licking them makes it much worse, hers would bleed from being so dry. Also instead of drinking just water through out the day, try Gatorade. and Juices. Gatorade has good stuff in it to keep your immune system high, and it hydrates BETTER than water.. that's why sports ppl use it   Good Luck.. and sending Labor Dust you way!!!

Thanks, I'll try the hard candy and gatorade. Did she go into labor soon after that? I'm so ready to pop.

She did.. a week later. She tried some 'at home' inducing tricks, the DR said it would perfectly fine since 37 wks is already full term, and he didn't want her to get too dehydrated, or she'd have to come into the hospital and be on an IV. She was miserable even the week with the gatorade and chapstick and candy, so we looked up ways to start labor going and she went into labor the day after

I'll just reitterate (sp) the Gatorade advice! My dr said that gatorade is really good for you to drink when you get dehydrated, not necessarily just to drink whenever. It has those electrolytes that water doesn't. I went to the hospital for dehydration thursday and I've been drinking Gatorade every since and the cramping and backaches have really subsided. Good luck!

Thanks. I also heard that since gatorade is packed with sugar, it may cause more diarrhea, plus, I can't have too much sugar because i had gastric bypass about 3 years ago. It makes me dizzy and sleepy with more diarrhea and vomiting. Maybe I'll try some gatorade mixed with water.

Hahaha.. yeah, she had tried the walking (and we both about passed out in the mall) LOL.. and everything else... Then we read something about nipple stimulation, which sounds COMPLETELY weird, I know... but your nipples are supposed to give contractions to your uterus (the whole sex pleasure thing).. anywho.... She layed in the bathtub under warm water, and she rubbed her nipples for 30 minutes. You definitely can't stop after 10 mins, they were really firm on that. You have to do it for like 30 minutes + under warm water (which helps not hurt your nipples, esp. if they are swollen and cracked which they tend to be while preggo). She did that ONCE and was considering doing it again, but she layed down to take a short nap, and woke up in heavy contractions! 4 hrs later she was in the hospital and she had the baby that night   My mom got the advice from a friend who did the same thing, and my mom did it.. and they all had the same results! I am going to do the same thing once I am full term, my body is already tuckering out on me.   So I hope that helps!!!! You will have to let me know if you try it!!!

Make sure you drink lots of Gatorade to be fully hydrated when you go into labor, too. Like 'mollie's mommy' said.. those electrolytes will help with energy, too   We bought the powder mix and I make gallons of gatorade every week!!

I'll try the nipple stimulation tonight. Hopefully it works. I'm so tired of being pregnant and miss sleeping on my stomach.
