Tomatoes and Salmonella.

posted 5th Jul
So I just found out about this today, and we have been eating a ton of tomatos just recently because I introduced hubby to BLTs. So of course as soon as we start eating a lot of tomatos I find out about a salmonella outbreak  I checked our tomatos this morning and they are from Canada, which is still on the "safe" list, but from now on we are just going to start buying the ones on the vines. I am also not going to be feeding Gabriel anything with tomato products. I have read that salmonella is more likely to be fatal in children and older people, so I am just not going to take the chance. Luckily, Gabriel isnt eating many real foods yet, but sometimes we will give him little bites of our stuff, we just have to be careful to think about it beforehand now to make sure there is no tomato. I hope this is all cleared up by the time he really starts eating foods. How are you guys reacting to this?

I've never heard of it but I hate tomatoes anyways so I guess i'm safe. Good luck to you and yours.

They are now saying that tomatoes may not have been the cause.

you know this has been going on for a few weeks now right? lol. thanks to the good ole state of florida, where the most outrageous stuff happens, they thought that it could have been traced back here. what fun.

ets: i havent heard anything to recent, i just know i got a burger the other day and it finally had tomatoes on it, after many of the fast food places around here took a hiatus on them

Yeah, I just heard on the news a few days ago that they don't think tomatoes were the cause. I wouldn't be too worried about eating them or tomato based products.
It was mostly the west coast and south west that were getting sick.

Yeah, I am not worried about eating them myself, but I just dont want to take the chance with Gabriel. I read one article that said people from Virginia were affected.

They just said that it isn't the tomatoes giving people salmonella... it's something else and they are still trying to find it... So I think your safe.

People from all over were affected... There were at least 8 cases in WI... so it's not just an area thing.... but they are saying it's NOT tomatoes... think salsa... that's where they are going with this.. at least that's what I heard from the News.

It didn't start in Florida? On the news it said it started in California.
