I know what a cadet is, but what I was getting at is the fact that I had never heard of such thing in the NG. In fact, I asked my friend who is an NG wife and she asked her husband and NONE of us had ever heard of a NG cadet. Makes me wonder...

No wondering needed, you just don't know about the ROTC/cadet program in the ANG. A cadet is a "wannabe officer" who is going through school to learn to be an officer (regular college too) and you can also be a cadet in the ANG at the same time. I don't know if that made sense but I'm sure if you google it there will be some Army.mil websites explaining it.

Oh trust me, I didn't even think it existed either until this dumb jerk cadet that was taking pictures of my company in basic training told us all his life story and how he started as just a cadet in the NG.   I'll never forget that cocky bastard haha!

im in the national gaurd there are 2 cadets in my unit. well one now because one just got his commision. It is possible to be a cadet and be in the national gaurd. its those who enlisted first came back from basic and AIT and then joined the ROTC program at whatevercollege they go to. Their rank looks like a dot. All they do is show up to drill. while they are doing their 2 years of ROTC they will not deploy and do not have to go to 2 weeks of Anual Training. Unless your in most people dont know much about it.
