Pot Leaf Flags

Ok
so we were at the canada day parade on tuesday and one woman had the canadian flag with the gay pride colours, another the pot leaf flag.
I usually never thought about it- but my bf looked and said thats wrong. So i started thinking.. awhile back the government made a big deal finding these kids that peed on a national memorial.. but is changing the flag defacing history aswell? Im all for freedom of choice and self expression.. but i dont know.. what do you think.. is it wrong?

If something lke that was happening in America it'd be a huge controversy. Here you get a like 500 dollar fine for having your flag hanging the wrong way or not having a light on it. I can't imagine if something like that was found.

I think that any other time of the year, do what you want - if that's your way of showing pride in being canadian and gay/doing pot, good for you, its your choice. On Canada Day though, I think it's wrong. It'sa day to celebrate the begining of Canada, not personal choices.

i don't think it's wrong. unless they are cutting up canadian flags and sewing them back together again to make the weed flag. they couldn't even do that with the gay flag because it's got colors that aren't in the original flag soooo...

They can't fine you for shit. My parents don't have a light on theirs, its not required, there are no set guidelines on how to have your flag set up.

You can be fined here for having a flag that's in dis-repair or for destroying it - but it's never regulated. My neighbor is a war vet and has had a badly ripped flag hanging in his yard for the last 3 years. Its almost just like decoration alot of the time.

There is in our state then. Cause I know plenty of people who have gotten introuble for no light.

they're not defacing the flag, it's already printed that way. I don't see anything wrong with it. I just saw the title and had to poke my head in, and now hypothesize that that woman with the pot leaf flag was KL *bows out*

Well, yeah. I guess I should have rephrased what I said. If it's not defaced, if they made it on their own. But Canada is a lot more leniant (sp) on pot smoking too if I'm correct.

I don't about all of Canada, but Alberta is leaning towards a zero tolerance rule with pot. People are getting large fines for being caught with even small amounts now, where they used to be able to possess it, just not buy, sell or smoke it lol! It just stuns me really because most novelty stores sell bongs and stuff - what does the government think they are being used for???

Yeah, they still do it here. Smoke shops sell them..like people are really buying them to smoke tobacco..lmao.

I think it is fine.

It shows that you have pride in canadas acceptance of these things.

IE gay marriage and medical marijuana.

You are proud of your country AND that your country is tolerant of the things that help you or make you who you are.
