You are so right about that. You can be anywhere from 1-4 cm dilated for weeks and not go into labor (like my situations) or can be completely closed and not effaced at all and go into spontaneous labor. It really does create a false sense of security as to when you could deliver, we just never know.

I am curious too. I can see that not knowing wont make you more anxious then knowing. I think i would be a little upset if i went to get checked and was 2 cm for 3 weeks. Makes sense?

At my 36 week appointment my cervix was still completely closed, I started having contractions the following monday (this past monday) and then at my 37 week appointmentyesterday I was 3 cm dilated, not sure about effacement, but his head is extremely low and I've been having contractions every day since monday.. it sounds like i'm making some progress but the waiting game is driving me crazy!
