swaddling baby in summer
posted 4th Jul
My husband likes to wrap the baby up tight in a blanket for her to sleep but I am worried she will be too hot. We have the air conditioner set on 75but I think it is much warmer than that. For me I am only comfortable in my underwear, even when I put on a light robe I get too hot. Do you think that swaddling the baby up in a receiving blanket is too much in the summer? I have her just in her diaper right now. She's sleeping just as well as she was wrapped up. I don't want her to be uncomfortable.

instead of the blanket let her sleep in a footed sleeper
i dont have experience with this, im just guessing.

A light receiving blanket made of cotton would be fine to use. I would steer away from fleece or flannel ones, though, since they don't breath as well and can cause her to sweat. Sweating will be the biggest sign that she is too warm, or if she is fighting to get out of it. If neither is happening, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Like someone else said, just use something light weight and she should be fine

over heating leads to sids so if it is warm in your house and the baby feels warm I wouldn't swaddle if it isn't necessary.

I would use a cheesecloth swaddling blanket if you (or she!) wants swaddling. And always gauge a baby's temperature by checking the back of her neck (as opposed to hands, feet, etc.). If the nape of her neck is clammy and sweaty, she's too warm.

I would use something very very light... but only if the baby just needs the comfort of swaddling. Otherwise, I would just put them in a light knit footed sleeper. Julia really only sleeps in a onesie and light socks... but that's because the stupid window a/c doesn't work great in her room.
