Accuracy of an Ultrasound

posted 4th Jul
I feel stupid asking this, but how accurate are they?

With my son, they showed us a good view of his penis, but they also did the "color" test to make sure there was no blood running through it - meaning it was really the umblical cord. I also had that ultrasound at 22 weeks....

This time around, this baby showeda similar position - legs spread and we see what looks like a large penis (wider at the bottom) but this new tech said "oh i dont need to do the "color" test i can tell its a boy....

I guess I should believe her, but I was a few days shy of 19 weeks, so I have to go back anyway (too early and couldnt see all of the heart parts - I had begged for it early, and knew that might happen...)

Anway, I really truly feel like this is a girl - still! My intution is never wrong and this feel so utterly wrong.... Any thoughts? Should I just blieve them? I know they can mistaken a baby to be a girl when its a boy just cuase the penis is hiding, but can they really confuse a girl for a boy? That doesnt seem possible!

Im a bit depressed about all this too- I guess I really thought it was a girl... maybe thats just it. (Though initially I wanted a boy because they will be so close in age, I thought same gendered playmates would be ideal....)

What do you think?

I was told at 16 weeksI was having a girl and I did. If you have to go back I would just ask for one more gender look and see what they say.,

i'd listen to the tech vs. intuition- they have technology to tell you... but you'll have more u/s's before the baby is born to confirm it. I was told at about 18 weeks that I was having a boy and went to about 8 u/s's after that and asked EVERYTIME afterwards to make sure it was really a boy! LMAO

Sure enough, he came out a boy, but in only 2 of all the u/s's i had, he had his legs open and his peepee in view.

if it was that obvious to the tech i would trust them. There is only a very small chance that they are going to be wrong. I could have sworn this one was a girl my mom and I both had dreams where it was a girl but nope hes a boy. I still question it a little but i think thats just bc i was so sure it was a girl, but i trust my tech and he said it was pretty obvious. You can always get a 3d/4d done to be sure but i wouldnt get my hopes up too high about it being a girl

usually they aren't quite as sure with girls as they are with boys, because they have a hamburger that could hide a hot dog... but when they see a hot dog and beans, they know thats what they're seeing

I live in wisconsin and at our Technical Colleges they have Free Ultrasounds.... Students that are practicing to be tech's.. do an ultrasound for about an hour, and they record it and give you a DVD of it. It's pretty cool actually , and there's always an actual tech there teaching the students. So that's a cool way to have another ultrasound. Or, at your next doc. appt. just tell your doctor you'd like another ultrasound..

My husband has 2 daughter with a previous relationship.. The second daughter, Taylor was suppose to be a BOY...but the last ultrasound before her c-section, the tech said "whata cute GIRL".. And Taylor was a GIRL !!

I feared this for myself..but I had 4 ultrasounds and they all said GIRL so I was pretty confident I was having a daughter (thats what we wanted).
