the magical shrinking cervix...ugh

On monday I went into labor and went to the birth center only for it to completely STOP! I got to 2 cm and 50% effaced with bulging waters though, so I figured it wasn't a total loss. Then yesterday I went in for my 38 week appointment and saw a midwife that I haven't seen before. When she checked me she said I was 1/2 cm and 30-40% effaced. WTF!!!!? I get that some midwives or dr's are going to measure a little differently, but that's just RIDICULOUS!!! I'm so pissed off and discouraged and SICK OF BEING PREGNANT! Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone have any idea why the hell I have the magical shrinking cervix??

You're still not due for 11 days. Be patient. Baby will get here when he/she is ready! I know its frustrating. When I was pregnant w/ my oldest son I went in and they said I was 4 1/2 cm and 75%, I went to L&D after my water broke and I was only 3 and 75% I WAS PISSED. Its very discouraging but it will happen! Good Luck!

Patience is not a virtue I posess. I went all the way to my due date with my daughter but was NEVER in this much pain or this miserable. This baby is just so big and putting so much pressure and pain on me that I don't know how much more I can handle! Plus this time I'm having to chase a toddler around! I know he'll come when he's ready, I'm just tired of hearing it! I want him to come when I'm damn well ready lol

When I was in labor with my little girl a nurse checked me to see how I was progressing. She said I was between a two and three. She said we probably still had another 12 hrs before baby would be here. My sis had to go, but said she would be back (I really didn't see the point of her staying and twiddling her thumbs) as soon as she walked out my Dr came in and checked me. He said I was fully dilated. How is that possible? It was within 10 minutes!!! I wanted my sis there with me, but I couldn't reach her in time! I was sooooo pissed!

Ok, first off I'm LMAO at your post title. I know it's not funny but, I just have this image in my head of this being a show on the Cartoon Network. The cervix that shrinks when in danger!
Seriously though, it does happen near the end. You can dialate and then it'll close back up some. It's frustrating, I know. My labor started and stopped like that. Doesn't help when you're already miserable.

That's what I'm thinking... I could almost see myself dilating pretty quick if that had been my second or third.... but even then, 8-7 cm in 10 minutes? That's a little much...

There is always the everyone checks different part...but more likely what happened is your baby was probably pushing on your cervix at the time when it was more dilated. And the baby may have shifted (which is probably the reason your labor stopped) and "shrunk your cervix". If the baby puts pressure on the cervix again, it will more then likely open up again! SOOOOOOOO get bouncing on an exercise ball!!! Open those hips up!   Good Luck.

I can totally relate! I've been 3cm and 50% or more effaced for over 2 weeks now. Two days ago I started with contractions about 7-8 min apart but went along my day like nothing was going on. But when they become 3-4 min apart I knew I needed to get to the hospital, especially being my 4th baby. You never know how fast you'll go and the more babies you have supposedly the faster your labor progresses. Well, so I get to the hospital and the doc checks me and says that I'm only 2cm with a loose cervix. WTF does that mean?!?! So he says, I'm not in labor and gives me shot in the butt and sends me home. I was soooo pissed, I mean they didn't even keep me to monitor me for an hour and who knows what shot they gave me. Now it's 2days later and I'm still miserable, in the most pain I've ever felt during pregnancy and NO SIGN OF BABY   Like I said this is the most pain I've ever been in, this is my 6th pregnancy with 2 losses and 4th baby carried to term. You would think our body knows what to do and makes it a little easier on us, but no! All I have to say is that my induction is set up for monday morning at 6am so if he's not here by this weekend, he's evicted! LOL (I've had a lot of issues during this pregnancy, that's the reason behind the whole induction situation) I hope you deliver soon before you lose your mind   I know I'm watching the clock til something happens or monday morning.
