Getting the nervous feelings...

posted 4th Jul
The feelings are coming on. The pain is freaking me out a little bit, I do plan on getting an epi, the pain after having her is what's making me nervous a little bit. I'm scared of the epistiotomy (sp?), if I were to have one. I kept dreaming about it over and over last night. I'm scared of a complication happening during the birth, I really don't want a c-section or anything to go wrong. I'm scared of a stillbirth or perhaps myself even dying. Are these feelings normal? Because it's all being scattered through my brain right now and my stomach has the crazy butterflies right now, ugh.

totally normal!! The pain sucks, but as soon as you get the epi it's GONE! I had a c-section, and it was the easiest thing I've ever done. I just laid there. IT didn't hurt afterwards or anything. I was so terrfied of dying when I was in labor. But I didn't ad now I have a happy, healthy 4 month old   Good luck!!

It's normal just try to relax honey! The pain from the contractions will vanish when you get the epi... Don't worry about the episitomy (sp?) you might not even have it done...I tore and I didn't feel a thing and the healing is not bad at all... I was only sore for one day after that I felt great

So it's not like an unbearable pain? It's just a sore feeling?

Why aren't I scared of labor? I'm not scared of it at all. I know it's going to feel like hell is comming out of my vaj but I'm still not scared.
This is ment to be a normal feeling and I just don't feel it. Worrys me a bit. I think I just keep thinking of the end result rather then what it takes to bring him into life.
The only thing I worry about is SIDS. xD
That freaks me out.

You can refuse the episiotomy. In fact, there is absolutely no reason to have one unless it is IMPERATIVE that your baby is born hella-quick.

All studies have shown that you are more likely to need more repair with an episiotomy than without (picture pulling on a sheet and trying to rip it in half. It's hard to do. Then picture cutting into the top edge of the sheet- it rips a lot faster once you "help it along") and that natural tears heal more quickly than straight cuts.
So yeah- research it and put it in your birth plan as DO NOT WANT.

Tip 1: Learn coping techniques for birth in case the epi doesn't take affect right away (usually takes about an hour for it to kick in) or the person who administers it is busy or can't be tracked down as soon as you need it.

Tip 2: Maybe read some birth stories on line- if these women can do it, so can you! Read things that will encourage you in your body's ability to give birth and your personal strengths.

Tip 3: Talk it out. Go talk to your mom, go to a prenatal class, etc. It's totally normal to be afraid, and talking out your fears with someone can be really beneficial.

And feel free to ignore everything I've said! I haven't had a baby yet. I'm scared of all the same things you are but I just keep telling myself- I'm smart, I'm informed, I've researched, and I know my body can do it. And I've talked to other people who have had kids, and those were their top 3 pieces of advice for being scared.

SOMEWHERE on this website are work sheets (it's really weirdly laid out) for what are you afraid of in labour, what makes you tense, what is your coping mechanism for pain/ fear/ tension, relaxations techniques, phrases to say to yourself to help you, the best thing your coaches can do, etc etc.

I never ever worried about throwing up, and I did ALOT! It's no biggie, everyone's so focused on what's going on nobody minds holding a puke bucket   My hubby HATES puke and he did amazing! HE dumped it out and brought it back with no prblem! Trust me, when it's all going down, puking is the least of your worries. They say it's cuz your hormones are raging.
