I'm a little worried...

posted 3rd Jul
I know all babies are different, but I'm worried Tait isn't developmentally on track. He's a little over 5 months old, and can't sit up on his own. He's a little heavy so that might be the problem, he weighed 19lbs at his appointment today.

My question: Anyone's babies weigh 19lbs at 5 months and sit up soon after that? Or do you think he's behind?

my best friends son couldnt sit up at 5 months. he was just able to lift his head and try really hard to roll over but not quite actually make it yet. it was frustrating to me just watching him- i would wanna pick him up and roll him over for him! lol. so i think you are fine.

My son was maybe 5 months and 2 weeks when he started doing the tripod thing, where he would try and sit up with one or both arms holding him up in front of him. Has your son tried doing that? Babies do things at different time, I don't think I'd be too worried.

Yeah he does that but then gets excited and throws himself back lol. So he's close then ya think?

I've been watching my niece alot lately... she's 8 months (going on 9) and just started fully sitting up by herself about 2 weeks ago. Every baby is different...

My youngest didn't start sitting up until like 7 and a half months...No matter how hard I tried....but once she sat up everything else has come faster to her....she is trying to walk now(very unsuccessful but funny to watch   ) and she's only about 10 months...My oldest was sitting up at about 3 and a half months but didn't start walking alone til about 2 weeks before her 1st birthday...so yeh they are all different and I don't think you need to worry...btw my kids were on the heavier side too...and the more they grow the more they thin out..

Is there anyway other than the bumbo that I can teach him? I sit him up on the bed, but he just doesnt have the balance yet. If I hold his hands he can sit up, so its minimal support, but he justdoesnt quite have it yet

there is such a wide range for your child to be on track, an they say if they are slow in one area they might be fast in another. Sometimes they focus on one thing over another. Like one baby might be more vocal than doing the physical stuff or vice versa.

Arianna could do the tripod thing at 4 1/2 months and sat up completely by herself since 5 months.

but she was not as vocal as other babies. Babbling here and there but not all out like my friends babies.

She's 20pounds at 7 months i dont know if that makes a difference.

lol its funny that you say that, because Tait will babble alllllll day lol. He rolls both ways though, idk if he's early on that or not

see dont you feel better???

Arianna has always been early on her physical stuff, but the talking is just on track or alittle late. Likewhen she was 6 1/2months she would pull herself up to stand, but I have a feeling she will not say mama and dada until like 9 months even though they say around 8 is when to expect it.

I use to put a toy that they were really interested in..in front of them . They would lean forward to play with it. I would put pillows behind them incase they fell....when my oldest would fall I would hold her legs down and she would pull herself up then.....it was cute to watch lol..with my youngest she would sit up from lying on the pillow and then she could eventually do it lying flat on the floor

Ben is 22lbs at 6 months, and I was worried that his size would affect his development, but he is now sitting alone...until he forgets and throws himself back. He also didn't roll from tummy to back until he was 5 and a half months. He could roll back to tummy at 4 months...he's backwards, lol. He's starting to crawl now too....backwards of course!!
My doctor said his height is catching up to his weight now, so I have nothing to worry about. And he doesn't think his weight will affect his crawling/standing/walking...unless he gains another 10 lbs!! lol.
