Inducing?
posted 3rd Jul
So next Friday I am supposed to be induced if he doesnt come on his own.
In a way Im happy, because Ill have it planned when hes gonna be here and it wont just be a spur of the moment thing.
But then again, Im REALLY scared.
So my questions is, what are all of the ways of being induced, which are the safest, and does it hurt? lol
Im a big chikken

My water was broke by the doctor at 8:30 and I was contraction about every 5-6 minutes and was about 3 cm. Then they started the pitocin at 9. I got my nubain at 5 cm and it did NOTHING! At 6 cm it was about 1pm and I got an epi. It was WONDERFUL!!! I started pushing around 4pm. Around 5 the doctor tried the vaccum but it failed. Around 5:45 he tried focepts and that failed too. I was in the O.R. by 6:30 and my son was born at exactly 7pm. So mine was quite crazy. But that was me. I like the pitocin. Got things going REAL quick!!

Well I went in at 6 in the morning. The gave me my IV and thenput this balloon thing in my cervix. Then they slowly filled it with water. After that they hooked up the meds that make the contractions start. I forgett how to spell it. Starts with a N. The contractions were barable. I dont really remember what eles. I dont think it hurt.

Safest method is [imo] pitocin, which they give you through an IV...there's also cervadil gel, but I've heard it can be risky under some circumstances.
I went into labor on my own, but they weren't going to admit me because I was only dilated 2 cm. Well some dumb midwife broke my water by accident while checking me, so I had to be admitted & get pitocin. They used pitocin to strengthen my contractions so I would dilate faster. Once they did that, my contractions started to overlap, & it hurt like a motherbitch. BUT, I ended up going from 2 cm to 6 in like 4 hours.
SO...the pros are, it can make your labor quicker, & kick start things for you.
The cons are that you could have overlapping contractions (meaning back to back), & an increased risk for c-section, since if you don't progress from the induction after a certain number of hours, there's not too much else they can do for you.

I was already dilated to 2, so for me I never even felt it till the warm water leaked out.

No, it just feels like you're peeing on yourself a lot, but you can't control it [obviously] lol

Skittles, I'm also scheduled to be induced next Friday at 7am! I'm not scared at all really...just ready to have my little girl here. I'm not sure what the whole process will be like either--I heard good and bad things about pitocin so who knows. I just hope the person with the pain medication will not be too far off!

Good luck hun!! I didn't worry too much about it either...till the doctor broke my water and I realized that "this was it".

I'm not sure of all the different ones I know of the two optins they gave me with my first one:
Pitocin is given through and i.v makes contractions progress faster, but that doesn't guarentee a quicker delivery. A girlfriend of mine was induced at 7 in the am by 8pm she didn't dilate as afr as she needed and since they had popped her water for her an hour before they ended up doing an emergency c-section to get the baby out quickly.
The second option ( that I have personal knowledge of, although the name escapes me) is something similar to a "barbie" tampon. They place is directly on the cervix and that thins it out gradually. Again not guarenteeing immmediate relief. I was induced that way on a Saturday evening I didn't have my daughter until 1am on a Monday.
The truth is you can't get that baby out any faster than it wants ( outside of cutting it out)

it's uncomfortable. mine broke naturally. I just remember feeling so much pressure that I wanted to cry...then all of a sudden it's like you're peeing uncontrollably...it's a weird feeling.

I loved being induced, I was induced with one of my kids and went into preterm labor with the other. This one I already have my induction date set three days before my due date. I have the epideral so I don't ever really care if it hurts since I can't feel it LOL
