membranes stripped....

posted 3rd Jul
ok...first of all, before anyone tells me that it's too early to be worrying about this...i have pre-eclampsia, so the baby has to come early. i went in to the doctor today to get everything checked out. she said that my blood pressure is stable at the moment, but she stripped my membranes in the office this morning. she said that if i don't go into labor on my own, and if nothing else happens, she's going to induce me on wednesday. i was just wondering if anyone knew...if it works, how long after the membrane stripping does it take for labor to begin...on average? just looking for some kind of idea. thanks for all replies in advance!

Sometimes it works really fast, sometimes it doesn't work at all. It all depends on your body and how ready baby is.

I am not for sure exactly, but I do know that everyone is different. My doc stripped mine at 36 weeks, and alls it did was cause contractions the whole day, and i lost part of my mucus plug, i think it was too early for anything to happen. But good luck w/ everything!

It sorta hurt, but it was more uncomfortable than anything.

YES!!! it was extremely painful!!! she didn't even tell me she was doing it. i thought she was just checking dilation, but she stuck around a little longer and it really did hurt. she told me after she got done that she had done it...but i read that it doesn't always hurt, so it may not for others. i really don't know, because i'm not other people! but yes, it hurt very badly!

I am such a baby about pain that's why I was asking. Thanks and I hope your little one comes soon.

It worked for me, but it was done the day before my DD and I had her on my DD so they may have had something to do with it... I also walked a lot and was doing squats... Well, and I was already dilated to a 3 when she did it.

I can help answer your question! With my first pregnancy i couldnt wait for my baby to come out already. I would beg my doctor to induce me. He finally started stripping my membranes every time i would go in to see him (i think weekly). I hurts like hell! I bled also. It helped me get to 3 cm. But like 3-4 weeks later i went into labor and still had a 8 hour labor. Maybe it depends on the person.

But you should try having sex. Or if thats not possible try self pleasuring or pinching your nipples. I dont mean to sound like a crazy weird person but all those things can help alot. Also try walking.

she said i was at 2 this morning, but i'm on bedrest, so i can't be up doing anything to help move it along!

i reallyyyy don't want to be induced. i've heard that it's a lot worse than regular labor...but i really don't think i could handle 8 hours! and you don't sound crazy. i've heard all that stuff before!

I was induced. I was in the hospital for 38 hours before I had Lucas. 19 of those hours I was in labor.

omg! i know i definitely couldn't handle that. i'm not even totally sure i'm going to be able to deliver vaginally. if my bp goes up, they'll have to do a c section anyway. i'm just really hoping that i'll go into labor on my own...before wednesday!
