Atkins diet is great for people who have high blood sugar (like women with PCOS tend to have insuling resistance) and it is really great if you do it the right way. You dont live off of bacon and hot dogs, you live off of cabbage, fish, chicken, and any dark green veggies. You just cut out white flour and pasta, which is bad for you. Any diet is bad for you if you do it the wrong way. Even cutting calories can be bad if you only eat foods that are not good for you.
The biggest problem with the Atkins diet is that the weight can come back FAST if you dont stick to it. You do 2 weeks of 20 or less carbs, then 2 weeks of 30 or less then 2 of 40 or less. You basically force your body into ketosis in order to burn stored sugar then teach your body to burn the stored sugar first.

ditto...and gained it all back + more! It's a diet, not a lifestyle. You should make losing weight and eating healthy a lifestyle! I'm a WW advocate.

True, alot of peoople dont. But if youve ever read the revised version of the diet you would know dr atkins himself tells you to choose lean meats. and eat no meats withoutnitrates. ie spam, bacon, hot dogs.

also many low calorie diets also tell you to not eat sugar, and bread..just like this diet.
its like a train...carbs are the train that carries the fat into your body to store it!

WW is great, i know two people who have been on it for years, and they maintain great weights, but it is pricy to join up!
