I breastfed my youngest son until he was 7 months old at which time I started the mini pill and it dried me up. I had planned on 1 year... I think a year or so is a good amount of time.. Plenty in my opinion...

I used to think I was going to def breastfeed. I know when my sister had her son he wanted absolutely nothing to do with it so she went to formula. I'm not going to bash her for that ... it was her choice. But I found out Im having twins and now I'm not really sure how I feel about it. These will be my first babies and I think breastfeeding will be decided upon their arrival, but I'm sure you super breastfeeding advocates are going to jump my case, but I doubt it will last a year. I'm already nervous about 2 and developing a routine with them and what not. I do support it and I know I will try it... but everyone has their oppinion and their own options! Def not passed one though!!!!!!!!!

The AAP recommends breastfeeding until the age of two....I think I'm going to let my daughter wean herself and she that goes to 18 months, then that's when we quit. I don't think I could put a "quit date" on her.

I don't think anyone in this thread whose posted thus far anyways will jump you at all!

Breastfeeding is hard.. It is beneficial yes, but nonetheless a lot of work.. Twins will be very hard and it may prove too much.. It may not.. You'll only know once they are here.. Good luck though

Yeah I think that once they are like talking it's a bit much... Under two I don't see the big deal.. Over two I don't see the benefit any longer.. Just my opinion though

I'd like to think that by two we will have other ways of bonding and she's be getting her nutrition through other means. It's just such a slippery slope as to what's a good age versus a weird age...it can be quite a heated topic  !

IMPO, I'm going to do what I feel most comfortable with. If her teeth start hurting my nipples, then I am going to stop. That doesn't mean that my baby wont be as healthy as can be otherwise.

Honestly, I don't believe I've ever been around anyone who has breastfed. My sister's did NOT want it, and my SIL just said it wasn't for her. And I feel like a shy person about my body ... you know? So I'm actually really a bit nervous about breastfeeding at all. I do want to because I know it will make them healthier ... but yea, Its really going to have to be decided upon their arrival.

I don't think anyone is saying the child will be any less healthy. But if it makes you feel better, there are ways to teach children not to bite during feeding. Think about it...some kids are born with teeth or cut teeth by two months!

If it helps, it really isn't as weird once you try it...I know it seems like a weird thing to do beforehand though!

How do you teach them to not use their teeth?

I agree.. I think by two there's plenty of other bonding things that can be done...

My youngest son (3) when he wakes up in the morning come's and climbs into bed with me (hubby too on weekends) and he cuddles up and get's his back scratched.. We lay and cuddle and back scratch for about 10 mins or so and I ask how he slept, did he have good dreams, what does he want to eat for breakfast.?. Stuff like that.. It's a wonderful bonding time and I think we bond better over things like that then if I were to be feeding him from my breast.... We also cuddle on the couch before bed at night.. But we dont' talk much then.. Part of our night time routine..

kellymom is one of the best breastfeeding sites I've found. Also, the breastfeeding forum in PWI is great for advice! Here's the link:

Luckily, I'm not there yet. However, since my little girl seems to have a milk-protein and soy intolerance, I've had to cut EVERYTHING that has either out of my diet...it's been rough!

With Caden when he tried to start biting on me at about 6 months I would unlatch him, tell him "No that hurts mommy" and give him his teether.. If he would fuss for more food I would re-latch him and let him eat until he tried to bite again... Typically though with Caden he didn't try to use his teeth until he was done feeding, bored, and ready to play

I know when I had my daughter, I tried to bf, and it was a weird feeling, and I had to stop because I didnt want it to "feel good" and since I have had her and tried to bf I will not let my husband touch me in that way because I have mixed feelings about it...it makes me feel weird to let him touch me on my breasts and then I feel weird bfing because it seems to me that they are a sexual thing since that was the main attraction in sex for my husband. I cant see where these ladies let their kids do it past the normal age....the kids are going to need mental help, and the moms should be put in jail. I mean you tell me how sad it is that your 8 year old daughter askes for breast milk for her 8th bday instead of barbie dolls....ITS SAD!!!! DSS or CPS should be called...i know if I knew someone like this I would call on them and hope it helps the child and htey arnt too far gone if you know what I mean!
