A friend of mine here found an article posted by a mother who was still BF'ing her 10 year old SON. And she was asking advice because when she breastfed her 10 year old son, he would play with her other nipple while getting an erection. She was confused if she should say anything to him or not because she didn't want him to think that getting an erection was a bad thing.

Sick huh?

Thank you, Kamala, for your words of support for breastfeeding older children! My son is now 8 years old. He will soon be 9. I have since learned that a friend of mine has been secretly breastfeeding her son who is 10 years old. She says that they cuddle on the couch after he returns home from school, where she allows him to suckle at her breasts while relaxing and watching tv. These 10 minutes of mother-son quality time has done much to bond them. However, she has told me that her 10 year old son has begun to rub her breasts, play with her other nipple, while he sucks at the other breast. She has also noticed that he recently has begun to develop erections while at her breast. Is it normal for a child to have an erection while suckling at his mother’s breasts? She’s not sure what to do about this. She doesn’t want to cause him alarm, or give hiim the impression that erections are a bad thing. But truthfully, I would not want my son to have an erection and masturbate while he is drinking from my breasts! Since my son will be 9 soon, I need to consider this possibility. I wonder if my son will EVER ween himself off of my breasts, as suggested by many professionals and friends. I don’t want to be in the predicament that my friend is in.

wow, wouldnt that at least be a HINT to STOP!!!! To each there own, I dont agree with it and would never do it... but if you wnat to dont you think you would stop when something like that started to happen?

Oy, i was reading some of the stuff from the other thread ... and holy bananas! Whether or not theres a cultural difference or "America has sexualized the breast" you will def not catch me breastfeeding after the "normal" time to do so. I live in America and I think kids can be cruel ... and if one kid is out of the "norm" that that child will take a crazy beating at school. I just don't have the capacity to be ok with it. I thought thats why we got teeth? So we could eat ... food!!!!! Dogs and cows and lots of other animals (not that humans are animals) but they don't breastfeed throught their entire life. Blah ... I'm blown away. I don't want anything more than my 1 year old touching my boobs. That'll be for me and my husband. Sexualized/culture blada blah ... whatever MY oppinion is its nasty and mentaly disturbing!!! Yikes!!!!

Yup, I agree. If not relationship issues, there's going to be some sort of separation anxiety. He is going to look at his mother in a sexual way for the rest of his life.

It's just disgusting.. Absolutely sickening.. I mean secretly breastfeeding a young man, while he plays with your breasts and gets an erection???? What is wrong with mom?

There has to be a mental issue with the mother ... i understand its a bonding thing ... but man go out and bond over some baseball or a disney movie ... no breast milk ... no no!!! And eventually he will not be mentally ok ...

OMG! I cant believe that... I am a breastfeeding supporter but at 8 that should be suxual abuse!

I plan on breastfeeding till 1 if that! Once the baby starts to get those teeth I think I will switch it to a bottle, I'll still pump but also use formula.
