Stripped Membranes

Yesterday at the doctor's office I had my membranes stripped. I am still a little confused about what that means. Has anyone had it and did it help them? I am ready for this baby to come on out. I know I have another two weeks. Trying to be patient. But I know it will be a long journey seeing as I have been dilated only 1 centimeter for the last 3 weeks. hhaha.
