re: Foster care/adoption trends and abortion

This isn't a black and white issue. Neither choice is the overall better choice, that is determined on a case by case basis. There are cases where I think adoption is the best choice, and cases where I think abortion is the best choice.

I adopted my son via private adoption because that was how we were approached. However we did take classes through our Foster care services and I was stunned at how they viewed the "students".

Instead of giving us the material and information needed to progress through the classes we were lectured on how we could become foster parents and get a check. WE entered the classes to start the adoption process, not to become foster parents(bless them).
I spoke my mind and told them I wasn't there for a check. I was there to adopt a child that needed a home and family for the rest of its life.
We were also told that it is harder to finalize a foster care childs adoption due to red tape and birth parents rights. It could take us up tp 2 yrs to finalize the adoption with state assistance on the cost.

We dropped ou tof the classes and was approached about 2 yrs later with my son by private means It was a long journey (8 months) to the finalization but we jumped through every hoop and paid out the ass in fees to the state to allow us to adopt him. They offered at one point to place him in foster care to allow us to draw a check to assist in the payment of said fees. I laughed borrowed the money from my boss and told the state system to Fuck Off. Once a child is placed in the system they often get lost in it and my son wasn't going to be one of them.

Adoption is a long hard road and the state doesn't make it easy. But i would do it all over again to have my son.

YOU dont get it. I dont think anyone here is saying that abortion is the best option for everyone always. people that give their children up for adoption are amazing women. I absolutely thing that adoption can be great. Im just glad its not the ONLY option. There would be MILLIONS more kids in foster care, born addicted to drugs and never well cared for. Abortion CAN be a good option for people.

I am against the death penalty for many reasons. 1. Life if prison is cheaper than the death penalty for tax payers. 2. I think death is an easy way out, life in prison is a worse sentence. 3. I dont think the government should be able to mandate murder.

I dont believe abortion is murder, and the government certainly dosent mandate it. Its a choice.

I was looking into adoption and I couldn't believe how many 14/15/16/17/18/19/ and even 20 year olds needed homes. There were so many brothers and sisters that needed homes. Children will FAS and those who were born with addiction to drugs.

my husband went into foster care at 5 years old. He wasn't adopted until he was 18.

My SIS & BIL are foster parents to HIS nephews.. They are now 15 & 17 ..

After their experience..there is no way I would be a foster parent..

DHS won't work with them..the boys need SERIOUS consuling.. they won't pay for it.. (and dr won't see them w/out state's approval).. They are both failing school (no tutor..state says NO).

The oldest boy will be 18 this fall.. Where does he end up? On the street.. He will probably end up in jail before he is 21.. He has a serious attitude and thinks he knows EVERYTHING.. He has no street smarts and doesn't know how to take care of himself. If SIS & BIL don't take part of his paycheck away, then he blows it all on junk food and no money for gas or insurance. He is failing school and doesn't care.

My SIS & BIL have tried everything in the past year to help them, but the state says NO to helping with anything that involves spending a $$. It took them 3 months to get their first "support" check from DHS .

I really feel sorry for the boys.. They were abused by my BIL's mom (their previous foster home) for YEARS and they just aren't getting BETTER.

I lacked 3 classes becoming a foster parent myself (long before my SIS & BIL started this).. I was told I had to purchase EVERYTHING needed for a baby up to a 6 yr old kid. I had to have it in stock too.. If the stuff wasn't there, I couldn't have a kid placed with me.

So I can see why the foster kids just aren't getting adopted..
