What SHOULD the number for new topic replies represent?

posted 2nd Jul
I'm debating whether to change the current setting for new topic reply notifications. Regardless of the current way the notification works, what makes most sense for you given these two scenarios.

Scenario #1: you post in 2 different topics. When you return to the site, you received 3 replies in each topic. Should your notification read: "6 topic replies" or "2 topic replies"?

Scenario #2: you post in 2 different topics. When you return to the site, you received 3 replies in only one of the topics. Should your notification read: "3 topic replies" or "1 topic reply"?

What makes the most sense?

I think the first one makes much more since than the second one personally.

My head hurts from that.

I think it's fine the way it is now. You can go in the thread to see exactly how many replies have been made.

its confuzzing. the way i always saw it when i saw the number is like this.

if i posted in X amount of posts, i see 5 topic replies, that means there are 5 replies to the X amount of posts I have commented on. omg that doesnt even make sense to me. the way it is works for me...if you can belive that

I like it the way it is now, that makes sense to me. LOL The other way would probably confuse me.

It's not really the same, one counts total number of topic replies and one counts total number of topics replied in.

I think if it gets changed, you'll have a ton of pm's/posts asking why their topic replies are broken haha.

Now why couldn't I put it like that in the first place?

Personally I voted for "total number of topics replied in" (option 2) - it lets me know how many different topics had replies. With the current system (option 1) I sometimes get lots of topics replies and then I'm disappointed when it's just one topic with tons of replies...

haha

I'm pretty loyal to using the Recent Topic Replies box on my main page, so i don't really pay much attention to the topic replies personally.

I am too. It makes much more sense and saves time that way. IMO
