percentiles??

posted 2nd Jul
I brought Sienna to the docs today, and she is now in the 11th percentile. She was in the 5th percentile...but my question is...what is a percentile?!? Is 11th good? Help?

It's basically, out of 100 little girls, yours would be the 11th so to speak.. So, she's doing good, petite, but nothing wrong with that. My daughterhas always beenin the 5th percentile since she got on the charts.

Most of the time I see kids end up in the 50th percentile......well, except my chunky monkeys. LOL They're usually like 80 or 90%. But smaller babies will be in a smaller percentile.....if the dr isn't worried then I wouldn't be either.

11th percentile means that 89% of babies are bigger than Sienna.... which is okay since she is a preemie.   BTW was the 11th percentile for height or weight?

Paige isn't even on the chart yet... she is <5th percentile in both.

It was for her weight. She is 5weeks and weighs 7.9lbs. She weighed 5.3 when she was born. She is 21 inches, so that is normal ((what the doc said))

aww the percentile is just like, she would weigh more than 11 percent of little girls her age... Aidan was in the 1% when he was born and then jumped up the the 5th for weight by his 2 month so we'll see what his 4 month holds!!

We arent on the charts yet either, not even for adjusted age. How is paige doing otherwise? everything going well?

OP from what ive read preemies that are in the lower 25th usually catch up pretty well and quickly too

Just thought I'd share this site with you all. It has growth charts that you can adjust for prematurity. I LOVE it!

Awww... how far off the adjusted chart is your little guy? For adjusted age, Paige is in the 35-40th percentile. It's just so weird seeing her actual age growth chart, and her line is way below the percentile rainbow.... I couldn't even enter her data for the first two months because the chart didn't go that low! But I did notice that her line is steeper than that for term babies... so she is catching up a little bit!
