Why does your belly button pop out?

posted 2nd Jul
Okay, stupid question, I know, but Ive been thinking about this a lot! Why the heck does your belly button pop out when youre pregnant? Why doesnt it when you get fat? I mean even extremely over weight people still have belly buttons! So why the heck dont I?! lol

i've read that it's a hernima behind the belly button.
It should heal its self after you have the baby, but it can take a couple weeks.
Mine still sticks out some, but not tooo much.

It's becasue over weight people put their weight on over time. We out ours on in a few months. The skin dosn't have time to stretch, hence why we get stretchmarks too.

bc all your fat is squishy, and the baby is hard, seeing as how your uterus is filled with liquid.... so its more pressure pressing up against your belly button, and in a much shorter time too. fat people didn't get fat overnight... or in nine months haha.

Mine popped out with two of my pregnancies, my first and my 3rd, but not my second. I always just thought it was because of the position of your uterus and the baby that it popped. I am over weight when not pregnant and it goes back in after I have the baby so I am really not sure why. I guess maybe becuase there is no pressure behind it to make it pop out?

i wondered this too..... mine didnt with my first and this time it looks like it will. i have only fained 10 lbs so far this time, compared to my 50 last time so i guess my uterus is right behind my skin with no padding this time.

Oh dont worry, my belly button grosses me out so bad now... Its soooo shallow and weirdly squishy and soft. I dont like it. Im almost 28/30 weeks (I find out tomorrow if my due date is going to change) and I know with the last 10-12 weeks its BOUND to get even more disgusting!

Yay for Google!

Question: Will my belly button pop out in pregnancy?
Answer: There is no way to predict whether or not your belly button will pop out pregnancy to pregnancy and is mostly related to the position of your baby. Some women are quite annoyed by this and will even tape their belly button flat to their pregnant bellies. It is helpful to know that your belly button popping out can be normal and is not harmful to you or your baby.

LOL I didn't mean it like that. I know a lot of over weight people get stretchys but a lot don't for that reason, because it takes time.
I got stretcheys from doing Karate when I was 10 years old and I was a skinny little thing back then.
Just saying. :p
