So this other Momma just posted on how she just got her daughters ears pierced.
And it looks kind of like the comments should be in a debate and discuss thread.
So, what do you think?
Yes or no? Why or why not?
Also circumscision, is it even in the same catagory?

Not biased or anything eh? lol

oy ...
I believe that a child should choose to have their ears pierced . It's not our choice as parents to do what we want with their bodies .
Circumcision ... unless seriously medically necessary or for religious reasons - absolutely not . It is there for a reason the way it was meant to be ... if it wasn't supposed to be that way boys wouldn't be born that way .

ear-piercing is OK I think, just as long as they are not too young? But then how young is young? Where I grew up, babies as young as 2 months get their ears pierced and with circumcision, boys get them at around 9-13 years of age. And its a must too otherwise everyone would be laughing at you. ugh. Terrible for boys really..
NOw, do I believe circumcision is a must? No its not a must. IT depends on culture as well. Some believe its a sign of good hygiene if a man is circumsized and some don't do it because of medical reasons.

I think he would just have to pull the foreskin back, clean and then be finished.

I don't know...our ped. said to do it early so she won't play with them (earrings, not a circumcision..haha). We are supposed to have them done at her 6 month checkup right at the dr's office. Mine were pierced when I was 2, and that is my only distinct memory from that early: I remember sitting on a high stool clutching a teddy bear and being scared. Unless 1 of us has a sudden change of heart, Adison will have earrings in 3 weeks. Please excuse any typos, typing 1-handed!

Thats basically it - you gently retract it but don't force it past its natural point of stopping. Wash and rinse and be sure to dry gently ... its like washing under your boobs .. lift and wash rinse and dry ...

LOL- since I already posted my opinion on the other post....
My son is not circumcised and I am most likely not going to pierce our daughter's ears either. I feel that it is their body and it is not my place to go about modifying it without their consent.
Though I must say- pierced ears on little baby girls look absolutely adorable. And someone on the other post made a really good point that if they don't like it they can let them close up later and now is the easiest time for all involved to do it since the baby is unlikely to bother the ears and will cooperate with keeping them clean. And it's not like circumcision in that if the girl doesn't like it she has the option of letting them close. A boy certainly can't re-grow his foreskin if he doesn't want to be circumcised anymore!

at what age to the generally(sp) do that and stop doing it?

My son is circumcized, not for hygiene or religious reasons tho. My daughters ears are pierced too, so she doesnt have to go through it when shes older.
If this baby is a boy, snipity! If it a girl, piercity!

If I was having a girl I'd wait to have her ears pierced mainly because they grow so much and I've seen people with peircings in the wrong spot because their parents had them done when they were 6 months old and their ears grew and moved the peircing. Although it is cute. I like that my mom waited until I was old enough to really want it done, It was also one of my first responsibilities because I had to take care of my ears myself. It kind of taught me the value of responsibility, I was 6. Same goes for my belly ring when I was 12.
We are however having our son circumsized, I've stated in previous posts the reasons why so i'm not going to repeat myself with that one.

Not sure what you mean ?
When they are a baby you do it for them , then once they are a little older I've shown my boys how to do it on their own gently - eventually the foreskin is fully retractable it happens naturally over time. We've never had any problems with infection or cleanliness - they are now 5,6, and 8 years old.

Nice biased poll, btw. Circumcision, I don't have a boy so I really couldn't say what I would do. I know plenty of men who haven't and they're fine. I actually asked one if he ever had any issues and he told me no.
Ear piercing, knowing that Alli's father and I both love piercings, I figured she would eventually want hers done which is why I got them done early. (like 4 months) My doctor said it was better now because she wouldn't mess with them. So, she has had them for 2.5 months now and doesn't even realize they're there.
