got milk?

posted 2nd Jul
the other night I was reading in bed and lying on my side when all of a sudden a lil pool of milk came out of my left boob. It felt cold so I looked down and there was a perfect circle around my nipple (and all over my husbands shirt) I was so excited! That was the night before last and the next day I woke up to go into my hospital app and wore loads of layers incase it happened again and I leaked in the middle of town. (I haven't got breast pads yet) but since the first time nothing has happned...no more milk? When should I start getting it all the time. And I wanna make sure I make the 'best' milk for my baby so is there anything I should or shouldn't be eating now to 'pump up' my supply?

What a cute little headline. Can't help you answer your question becaue there are far too many cobwebs in my old little brain, but I couldn't help but comment. Too cute!

Milk will come constantly once your child is a few days old. The colostrum (the most important component of breast milk.....you only get a few drops of it at a time the first few days) will only be produced once your placenta dettachs from your uterus...there is a hormonal response that cuase milk supply to come in. As for what you should and should not eat..there is no limits. You aren't due until the end of August and the real valuable breast milk that is tailor made for your baby by your body once it is born won't be produced until after the birth. I would recommend avoiding OTC medications that are known to be secreted in breast milk if you can when you are closer to your due date.

It's not milk yet ! It's called colostrum and its very common to leak it throughout pregnancy though some never leak during pregnancy - you will have your milk come in after birth (1-5 days after) milk production is triggered by hormones produced during the birthing process. So there's nothing you can do now, you need to wait until the baby comes

thanx for all your knowledgeable answers   I knew it wasn't 'milk' yet but was just unsure if it would come everyday or what. But now I know-thank you! I was thinking about eating far more healthier foods to release some toxins in my body that have gathered this pregnancy since you can't detox while pregnant. I've been eating healthy except for sugary things! Also a pregnant friend of mine told me to get lots of protein in your body as when she had her baby she didn't have enough and her babe wasn't getting full on her milk so they had to put her on formula. I realli want to breastfeed for as long as I can.

Good luck , it can be difficult at first but persistance and knowledge about it goes a long way in making it easier for both you and baby !

thank you! I will more than likely have a lot of questions seeing as I'm vegan it will be a bit harder to make sure I get all the right nutrients but I'm excited!

It's not too bad actually - I was vegan for a couple of years (vegetarian previous to that) and successfully nursed my son who I was nursing at the time I was vegan for 13 months !
