Csection Mommies

How bad was recovery?

How long until you were able to figure out comfortable ways to move and walk?
And how long until you could carry your baby.

IDK because Ive never had one but I heard the recovery isnt that bad. How are you doing? I dont think the spinal block will be that bad as you think.[i think i seen you say thats what you didnt want]

Yeah, im REALLY afraid of the big needle in my back. That's actually why I've always wanted to do a natural labor. lol.

But im doing okay. Im going to have a pitocin drip from 6am-12pm and then if no progress a csection.

My doctor and nurses all think that nothing will happen in the 6 hours and I should get it over with now, but I think im really waiting the 6 hours to mentally prepare myself for the csection. lol. Im the kind of girl who flips out and crys over an IV.

I went in for a scheduled c-section and for me the waiting was the worst part. I was ready for it when I went in and got bumped twice. By the time it was finally my turn I was flipping out! I had a couple of weeks to mentally prepare, just make sure you don't wait TOO long.

For me the recovery wasn't too bad. I was walking around pretty well by the time I got home from the hospital (two days) it took a little longer to be able to comfertably get up from a sitting position. It was a lot better if I kind of held my belly while I was standing up. What took the longest was being able to get in and out of bed easily, but our bed is really tall (I had to use a stepstool to get in while I was really pregnant and for about two weeks after the c-section) and really soft, so it didn't support my weight very well when I was trying to sit up.

I could carry my baby as soon as we went home (walking around the hospital ALL babies have to stay in their bassinet) and was told not to lift anything heavier than my baby in her carseat for... I think two weeks. I don't remember, but you'll have an incision check 2-3 weeks post op and they'll give you updated restrictions.

The spinal wasn't bad at all. They give you a teeny stick to numb the area before they put the big needle in. It's just like the c-section its self, you can feel presure, but no pain.

I hope you progress though and don't have to have one at all. Here's to your natural labor!

i actually think the spinal is easier than the IV because you cant see it lol

i had my c-section 3 weeks ago.. recovery wasnt bad at all.. i was up and walking by the next morning.. its better to get up and out of bed to help you recover faster.. it hard at first walking around but as soon as i was moving around a lot all the pain went away.. i quit taking my pain meds by the time i was leaving the hospital and i was picking up and carrying my son around in the room.. its really not as bad as people make it out to be. really the only thing that hurt me was the spinal because they had to redo it 3 times and that got pretty painful!! but you should be okay!! good luck and remember to move not lay in bed!!

I think it really depends, I went thru 15 hours of natural labor before we did the c-section. So my recovery was much harder and longer. I was not only recovering from a c-section but from labor. From what I hear its not bad if its a planned c-section.
I did NOT get an epi - I got a spinal. With the epi its a cathadar they put in your back where if you get a spinal its justa shot that numbs you. I was carrying my son around right away. I wasn't doing a lot of bending over though I can tell you that. I didn't sleep in my bed for at least the first couple of days at home because it hurt so bad to lay down or even on my side it hurt. So I slept in my rocking chair. I just say you don't have anything to fear but fear itself. Just get really informed about everything and ask lots of questions. I wouldn't stress too much though! Good luck hun!

It's not too bad. My nurse showed me to put a pad on your incision and hold it when you walk. It helped a lot. It's important to walk around right away, even thoughyou probably won't want to.
But I stopped taking my pain meds when I came home. It only hurtto get out of bed or get up to go to the bathroom. Once you're up you're good!
I think it took about 3 weeks before I was moving around real good.
The actual csection isn't bad either. It's just weird when you can't feel your legs! The spinal was the only part that hurt and I didn't even know when they started the section. It's weird when they're doingit because you can feel your stomach kinda moving around, but you can't feel what they're doing. My husband came in the room and was like "Cool, you should see what they're doing!" lol
Good luck!!

I never felt a thing. Not even my stomach moving around -

Ooh lucky! I could feel the pressure right before they took her out. It made me a little sea sick lol.

It takes about a week to move around pretty good. I held my baby right away. At my 2 week apt my dr. said I could resume all normal activity exceptany abdominal exercises. They send you home with pain meds for a reason so use them, even if it's a tolerable pain! I had Darvocet, so it didn't make me sleepy or out of it or anything. Just make sure you have someone to get up with the baby at night the first week or so, cuz that's the hardest thing is getting out of bed. I felt great 2 weeks later, just the incision is a little tender for a while.

I had a c-section. It wasn't planned. I was pretty much scared shittless. I'd never had any major surgery, actually I'd never had any surgery at all. I didn't even have time to accept the fact that I was having a c-section before I got to OR. As scared as I was, the c-section wasn't bad at all. I didn't feel anything at all, and my recovery wasn't bad either. I resumed all normal activity after a week, well, except for sex lol. I think the worst part was standing up for the first time. I cried, but it got easier every time.

I had my c-section on tuesday at like 1 in the morning. the next day (wednesday) they had me get up and walk, it was painful but not that bad, and I could hold Koen that day too.
they just told me not to lift anything heavier than the baby.
as long as I took my vicodin, the pain wasn't too bad, it just hurt to walk for long periods of time. I'd say about a week and a half and the pain wasn't really that bad aymore. I'm 4 weeks PP now and for the last like week I haven't even needed any pain meds or anything. it's honestly not as bad /painful as you'd think.

My recovery was pretty bad...BUT...Adison's dr's in teh picu advised me to stop taking my percocet because of the risk that it can go through milk to the baby...so I was takinga motrin at night after the last time I pumped for the day, and that was it for pain killers.  I was also up and about in the hospital 5 days post partum bc Adison was sick and so I could not just sit at home with my feet up..I had to be there with her.  I probably screwed myself w/ that and my recovery, but what can you do?  I hope taht your recovery goes very well & you are back to normal quickly.

My best tip- If you need to stand up, cough, laugh, sneeze, or even breathe hard- hold a pillow against your stomach.  The counterpressure on your abdomen makes all movement much easier on your incision.  Also, if you are nursing (or bottle feeding even) use a boppy or similar pillow to position your baby for the first couple weeks, it takes the pressure off of your incision by having baby on the pillow instead of against your stomach.  Keep your feet up as much as possible, a few days pp your feet & ankles may swell like balloons (no exaggeration...c sections cause BAD swelling for a lot of people).  Just try to take it easy, but remember to still get up and move periodically!  Good luck..oh..and congrats on that big baby..finally!

I did the labor thing too. I was in labor for 23 hours until they decided to cut me open and my recovery took a while too. I always wondered if I was just a big wuss and just couldnt take the pain. I couldnt walk but only a couple steps the first 2 weeks and could barely pick up my baby. It sucked=( I didnt get out of the hospital bed and start walking until 2 days after
