Used Clothes & Toys?
posted 1st Jul
My husbands aunt owns a lot of buildings, and she offered to let me start a buisness in one of them if i would like, i had thought about a Kids and Maternity resale shop, because there are none around us, and presonally, i love resale shops, and also resell clothes and bounces and such makaylie out grows.
Do you enjoy buying used clothes too? that way you get more for you money? or would you rather just buy new and then sell? or what?
Also, i would like to know tips for starting your own buisness, clothing store, ect. if anyone has any they would like to share! thanks ladies!

That would be a great idea!! I bought alot of things such as the diaper genie and other items at a resale shop. I am also going to buy a double stroller for my parents from one. You can sale things to the store for store credit at the one I go to. Just please don't overprice your items because if I walk into one and the first things I notice are over priced I walk righ tout.

I voted taht I buy but don't resell..but that is only because Adison is my first child, and I am saving all of her things in case we have another girl at some point. After we are done having kids then I will go through all of the baby things that I own and just save their keepsakes and sell the rest of it...I am really good about keeping Adison's clothes pristine, so I am fairly certain I would be able to sell them in a consignment shop. Plus..I LOVE shopping around for the best deals. Craigs list is awesome, and if we had a resale shop around here specializing in babies I would definitely shop there..
One thing I would suggest is that when people sell you their clothing, offer them a better deal if they take their payment in merchandise credit....so if you were going to give $50 cash for items, give an extra percentage for store credit..that way the money comies right back to you. Good luck, if you were aorund here I woudl totally shop at your store!!

I LOVE CONSIGNMENT SHOPS!!!! I get a lot of the kids cloths there. And I can resell them or trade them once they've grown out of them for new stuff!

Once Upon a Child is one of my favorite stores. I can bring in a box of Gav's clothes that he's outgrown and use the money that they give me to buy him new!

You can also buy things like high chairs, cribs, bouncy seats, etc for next to nothing at yard sales and sell them at your store. My parents bought McKenzie a new rainforest jumperoo for 20!

Oh, I just thought of another suggestion- bows, tutus, pillowcase dresses, etc etc are very popular, if you make anything or know anyone that makes something you should also try to sell those types of items. If you make them yourself then it's pure profit, and if you can work a deal w/ someone else, you get a commission for selling them. Slings & other baby carriers too...I know a lot of people make them, and I am not sure what you hvae to do to become an authorized dealer of a more known brand (hot slings, peanut shells, etc), but look into that type of thing also. I was looking for a once upon a child near me (there are none that aren't hours away), but when looking I was on some of their sites and a lot of them also sell new merchandise along w/ the used. If you have a carters store near you, you can stock up on new items there also really cheap, and sell them for profit...for some reason, SO many people do not know about the deals at carters outlets, or they just can't be bothered to go look around maybe...but if you have one, definitely scope it out. I got 15 outfits recently for Adison at Carter's, for $96....The outfits EASILY retail for far over $300...so even if you can get deals like that and sell that amt. of clothing for $200..it's a good deal to customers and you make a profit. If you are investing in new clothing like that, I would get 9 month+ sizes mostly...because usually people get a lot of smaller clothing for their showers and have to start buying clothes at 9 or 12 month sizes. I will come back if I think of anything else, I am excited for you! I would love to have that opportunity!

I buy mostly used items. They are way cheaper and are in most cases like brand new when I buy them. I used to sell on small auction sites things like my clothing and knickknacks and such, but no time now I have Emily and also shipping has made it nearly impossible to do so. But I think you could do real well with it if you have the time and place to do it. Good luck!

i buy used toys but not cloths.
I don't resale, because we give everythign to my SIL who's baby is 9 months younger than my son. We may resell a lot of stuff after though.
