I just turned 18 like 2 weeks ago. I need to apply for a credit card, being as I now have more bills to pay and my not have enough money in my account.
I tried to apply for one with my bank, but they said I cant because I have no credit. Or something. But they said I could get one that is like a debit card, I put money into in so I can build my credit. The lostest I can put into it is $300 and I dont have that kind of money to just throw around because I prob. wont use it. What did you do? I just need a low prob $200 cardfor emergancys only . What do you suggest I do?

First Premier Credit Card. It will cost you but it is a fast way to build credit

nobody would give me a credit card for a long time, and the first one someone gave me was from capitol 1, and i had no credit. the reason i got it is because where is says how much does your houehold make iincluded my roommates student loan and her job and my job. so puta lot of imcme within reason and they will prolly give it to you. it was only a $300 credit line, but it helped.

I suggest get a debit/savings card.
I would not recommend a credit card at all since you pay interest on those if you cannot pay your bill on time and also the fact that you have bills to worry about and its so easy to get carried away and shop with it, since you have 'time' to pay for it and its not cash coming out of your wallet.
Debit card is like prepaid phone. You dont have money, you dont spend. You dont have credit on your phone, you dont call. But you dont have the worries of a bill in the mail coming up and wondering where you are going to get it. I am 29 years old and never owned a credit card, only debit or savings card.
The money you will put in the debit card is yours anyway. You can take it out anytime you want. Also, you can make sure there is enough money there to pay for your bills. SO yeah, I suggest do not get a credit card unless you have monthly income to support the bills you are going to be getting.

i've been wondering this too.. Cuz I have no credit and I'm 20.. and with a baby..
Yet my boyfriend has AMAZING credit.. like.. he can buy a giant house if he wants to or something.
I used to use my debit card as credit all the time and whenever I applied for credit cards they always denied me cuz I didn't have credit.. I dunno.. maybe those you need way more or something.. I'm not even sure how the system works.

Honestly.... I was 18 when I got my first credit card, I just had Logan like 2 weeks before that, and I told myself it would be for emergencies ONLY. Sounds easy, but it's not. If I were you, I would only get one card and one card only. And just so you know... the more cards you apply for, the lower your credit score gets. I think it's like 2 points get taken off every time you apply? So watch what you apply for. My first card was a Capital One card. Great card, no fees which is a life saver, and my intrest rate when I started was low too. I think Capital one is a great starter card. I think my first card had $300 credit limit on it. But yeah, I would apply for a card through them..... my best advice though.... credit cards are bad lol.... if you can avoid them, do it!

My credit is absolutely destroyed and I have never owned a credit card...$20,000 in student loans and a $7,000 car finance and medical bills out the ass allllllllllll add up. Go with the debit card and a savings account if you can...there are so many other things that can ruin your credit, don't let a credit card be one of them.

Yeah avoid credit cards if you can. I am currently 4 payments past due on two of them. But if you're going to get one, the first one I got was from Credit One, a Visa with a $200 limit. Then I got a Capital One with a $500 limit. I liked it much better. Too bad I lost my job and haven't been able to pay them off now. But I did get both of those with no credit, and while I did keep up the payments they were quickly helping build my credit.

I agree that Capital One is a good starter card. The usual starting credit amount is $300, and I'm pretty sure they approve of just about everyone. I didn't have any credit, but they took me. No monthly fees, and a minimum payment of $10 a month when you do use it.
But it IS hard to only save it for emergencies. I've basically limited myself to using it for gas and hair appointments (usually every three or four months, ever since I've been preg/mom).
