When they prove they are old enough, if at 15 they are still acting like hooligans then they will still have a babysitter

10 is the legal age. I will allow my kids to stay home alone whenever I feel they are responsible enough to take care of themselves for a short time and know what to do in an emergency.

I don't know, it really depends where you live. Everything is so much more dangerous than even just a few short years ago when I was young. My mom started letting us stay home at like 12 or 13, but I guess you have to make your decision based on your child's maturity level and how much you can trust them.
At least I would trial them for an hour or two at a time to see how it goes.

Ha when I was growing up my mom started leaving us home alone when I was six and my brother was 11. I had to cook my own dinner, take my own bath and go to bed by myself most of the time. Kinda sad thinking about it My kides will be aloud to stay home maybe when the oldest is 13

Depends how responsible they are. I would say for a responsible child 9 or 10 if its only for a hour or so. Staying for most of the day like say they are sick and I have to work for example then 13. Over night would be like 15 or 16.

My son is 13. We don't go far and it's usually for an hour or two. We have left his sister with him - she is 5 - but it doesn't usually go to well. The fight and she just doesn't listen to him. We usually get a babysitter for her and let her brother do what he wants. He doesn't need a sitter and either just watches tv with them or does stuff in his room. He knows better. He is home this summer but my hubby works the night shift right now so he is home for him if he needs something.
