need advice (kinda long)

posted 1st Jul
ok well i made a post a few weeks back about how my doctor found pre-cancerous cells and i asked if this has happened to anyone else. Well i was alking to my friends (well she is kind of a friend) and she said that that happened to her and the doctor gave her 6 months to live. She also said she went through chemo (sp) and the only thing that saved her life was getting on birth control pills. I dunno weather or not she is telling the truth. If she is, this makes me really scared. I know i have to go back on july 18 for yet another colposcopy and if they find anythin they will have to take it out. Ok well i have 2 questions.
1. will having the cells takin out make it very hard for me to keep a pregnancy in the future?
2. Who REALLY went through this and what happened?

did they find the cells through a papsmear ?

i was told i had displysia and pre-cancerous cells , my pap smear came back abnormal , that was when i was pregnant , but i went back at my 6 week pp , and had a pap smear and they said it was normal , no precancerous cells , they said being pregnant helped with it , something along the lines .

my mom and sister had it too , they went in and freeze the cells and they fell out like snake skin , its hard to explain . because i didn't go through it .

I seriously doubt that your friend was saved by birth control pills first of all.

Second, my doctor found pre-cancerous cells and said that they could go back to normal after the pregnancy, so I'm going to get checked regularly after she gets here. (Which I'm assuming that's what you're going through now.)

Cervical cancer if you do end up having it can easily be treated by taking that part of your cervix out and hoping that it doesn't grow back with the same type of cells. I'm not sure if it's more difficult to keep/get pregnant again, but I would assume since it's your cervix you may have to have a c-section in the future...

I'm sure you'll be fine, and I'll keep you in my prayers.

I had this happen to me. I went back for a coloscopy and my doctor hasn't said anything since.
I think your friend is overexaggerating. They don't give you chemo for "pre" cancerous cells.
Unless your doctor says otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

ok well in the beginning of my pregnancy i was told i had hpv and they had to do a colposcopy. Well they did and it came back completely normal...so then i went for my 6 week pp appt and they called me and said i had abnormal pre cancerous cells. (yea it was through a pap) so now i have to go back july 18 to get another colposcopy. Im just worried it will turn into to cancer or that i wont be able to have any more kids. do you know if your mom and sister were able to hold pregnancies after that?

I had the same thing and they just cut out the effected part and are keeping an eye on it. It is really not that big of a deal if caught early on.

my mom had 5 more kids after it .

it happened when she was my age with my older sister , she had one single birth and two sets of twins after it .
my sister had 2 more kids after it .

its treatable if it comes back abnormal .

Happened for me like this. Had a pap, results came back in high risk (abnormal). Had the biopsy done (they take tiny pieces of cervix and test them). Results came back with dysplasia (sp)/ cancerous (sp). Had the LEEP procedure perforned (basically they cut off the tip of my cervix). Had my cervix checked my whole pregnany (every 2 weeks) to make sure it was staying closed and thick (if not, they would have to sew it up to carry the baby to term). My dr said plenty of women have it and have had sewn up cervix's and everything was fine and dandy.

I'm sure it doesn't. The good thing about your cervix is it regenerates itself, so there is a good chance (if you do have the cancer, and that's a big if) that the part of your cervix that would be removed would grow back completely normal.

When I had my LEEP surgery (they removed part of my cervix) they told me that although it will be harder to carry a baby to full term, it isn't impossible. I have been battling this for two years now. My doctor said that once I find out I'm pregnant, I NEED to get to the doctor ASAP and have my cervix stitched. Because if I don't I will lose my baby in the second trimester... I think that's what you were asking.
