I saw something on that on Oprah about a year ago. I can't remember the woman's name, but she says she has really great hearing and when she became a mom she could tell a difference in the cries. Apparently she has a DVD out to help you recognize the sounds. They played clips and it really seemed to sound different to me... not that I'll remember it now LOL! The difference in the cries are most pronounced when they start to fuss, I do know that. Once they're hysterical, it all sounds the same. Sorry I can't remember her name! The sounds come from reflexes, she said, and the only one I remember is the "neh" for hungry one is coming from the tongue on the roof of the mouth, which is a little like sucking. If you do find out more info, post it!

Thanks! I'll have to check that out. Hey, we're due on the same date! How are you feeling? I'm so ready to meet this baby. Had an appt this morning and they said I have no progress yet   but that, because the baby's a little on the larger size, she wants to see this baby out by the 15th. Yay! And it occurred to me it's a little like when you order something and they tell you it should arrive in 7-10 business days. That's when the baby's coming!

I actually saw that on Ophra. I tried to see if I can pick up those sounds with my son, but I just don't hear it.

No, we wanted to be surprised with the gender. It's been driving everyone else crazy not to know but we feel pretty content about it. It's just one more thing for me to look forward to! That's funny about you skipping your appointment. I don't think I would have the guts, even though I feel the same way about my visits... I love my practitioner, but I wish there was more to do than just be weighed, check BP and listen to the wubba's (the heartbeat). I haven't packed anything yet, except half heartedly thrown a few things into a bag like a deck of cards. How do I know what I'll even need? I 'll figure it out when I'm in labor.
