Advice re caesarean section - Help appreciated

posted 30th Jun
Hi all,

If my baby has not arrived by this Friday I am to go back to my hospital and book in for a caesar.

Just a quick question, do hospital normally book this a few days in advance or is it reasonable to think if I go in on Friday (at 9.00 am) that they may keep me in and perform it that day? By Friday I will be 41 weeks and 1 day.

I am also not sure (as the OB has not explained it) are you knocked out completely or partially? If partially, do they still put the baby on your chest after birth?

Thnaks for your help.

I don't know how it works in Austrailia but in the US they usually book it a week beforehand unless the dr decides that you should deliver immediately. Hope I was some help

I was induced and ended up with a csection. I had an epidural that lasted 12hours. I had to wait for the doctor to close my incision and get into the recovery room before I could hold my daughter. My husband was in the OR with me and he got to hold her right away. At one point I was given more medicine because I was throwing up and that knocked me out for a few minutes. But all in all it wasn't a bad experience. My recovery was pretty good also.

Can I ask why you are going straight for a csection rather than try a vaginal induction?

My doctor had me come see her when I turned 40 weeks. when she checked me to see if I dialated at all (which I didnt) she told me to check into the hospital the following day at 5pm. They induced me but I had no progress so they gave me the option for a c-section. when I said yes they had me on the table and the baby out within 30min. They didnt put him on my chest after they took him out. i think they wiped him off and brought him over so we could take a picture together. (oh ya and they gave me a spinal- I was awake throughout the whole thing). good luck!

Sure Mommy Meg

I had a large fibroid removed a few years ago, and they are concerned that because of where it was (at the top of my uterus) that the muscle may not hold up to either a long delivery or inducement and apparently for my safety they prefer to perform a c section.

If I go into labour on my own that's okay but they have said I have to progress very quickly or I will have a c section due to the stress on the muscle.

I was in labor for 12 hours and ended up having an emergency c-section. They took me in the OR put a shot into my back and my baby was born less than 5 minutes later. I was completly awake and aware of everything going on. I just couldnt feel anything from the waiste down (which after 12 hours of drug freelabor felt amazing!). My boyfriend and I did not get to hold my son right away but I think it was because when they pulled him out the cord was around his neck so they immediatly whisked him off to make sure everything was ok. It took about 45 minutes for them to stitch me up and then I went to recovery. I was in there for about an hour before they brought me my son. All in all it wasnt that bad and defiantly what needed to happen to keep my son safe.

Good luck with everything!!
