I had one UTI while pregnant and I don't remember what I was on! If the doctor knows you are pregnant and prescribed it for you then it's safe! there is a list of scrips a woman that is pregnant can take!

Nitrofurantoin. Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Macrodantin) is a relatively inexpensive antibiotic that is used specifically for urinary tract infections. It is an effective alternative to TMP-SMX or a quinolone. Unlike many of the other drugs, however, it must be given seven to 10 days, even in cases of simple cystitis. (Shorter course treatments are being investigated.) It is not useful for treating kidney infections. Nitrofurantoin frequently causes stomach upset and interacts with many drugs. Other chronic or serious medical conditions may also affect its use. It should not be used in pregnant women within a week or two of delivery, in nursing mothers, or in those with kidney disease.

Hope this helps some!

I was on Cephalexin. Its probably the best one that you can take while you are pregnant. Cephalexin can make some people go into early labor but so do kidney infections so I don't think that is really a big deal. I've never heard of the other one.

My doctor just gave me Nitrofurantoin mono/mac like a month ago. and i was fine, and the baby is fine, and my Pharmist (sp?) never said anything about it, and he watches my meds very closely because my doctor has prescribed me stuff that is no good for pregnant women before.

Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic that kills the bacteria that commonly cause a UTI. It treats long-lasting (chronic) UTIs. It is also used to prevent recurrent UTIs. It is safe for pregnant women. A lot of medications may say "do not take if pregnant or breast feeding" but are safe in lower doeses for both.

Hemolysis is the destruction of the red blood cells.
