I have been hearing about the mucous plug, what is that and what does it look like? so i can be prepared..

you must be a newbie... Mucous Plug questions are a big NoNo to most people here on Baby Gaga. for some reason they get tired of answering them.

i however just find them more and more amusing... and i dont think any question should be disregarded or reprimanded just because its been asked a million times before.

your mucous plug is a glob of just what is says, mucous, that seals the opening of your cervix. It protects it from outside infections. It's usually yellowy whitish in color. You lose it, or pass it, later in your pregnancy, hopefully after the 36 week point. It really looks like a ball of snot. Kinda gross, i know. If you lose it before the 36 week mark and it has blood in it, you need to call your doctor to make sure that nothing is wrong. After you lose it, labor will inevitably follow, although it may take a few days to a few weeks. And most women don't lose it all at once. It usually comes out as a heavier than normal discharge over the course of a few days. So there are the gross details. Hope that helps!
