17 and pregnant Again!

posted 29th Jun
I saw a post earlier about a women 19 yrs of age that found out she was pregnant again... I noticed that many people were being rude to her. I am 17 and pregnant with my second. My son is 1 yr old... I am married to his father. My husband is 18 yrs. old and works his butt off. I am a stay at home mommy... We are both still enrolled in school, but we do it at home. Wemoved into own home when my son was 6 months old. We are doing a "rent to own type thing" So we've been on our own without our parents help that long.. Why are people so doubtful that us young parents cannot support our children? Or ourselves? I was disapointed to see so many people react negatively to this woman when they don't know anything about her. I know that this is ranting but I'm sorry... I just have to voice my opinion on it. I'm due with number 2 in January 09'... I won't be 18 until March 09'. So what would you think of me if you met me? So can u help me out here and try to tell me why people think this way? Thanks

Most people your age aren't as mature as you and your husband seem to be, heck people MY age aren't mature, a lot of the people i know who have kids and are my age arent mature enough to take care of them in the right way

At 18, your husband qualified and was approved for a mortgage in this market? With the amount of credit an 18 year old can get? Impressive...

It sounds like you guys are doing a wonderful job....
However I think that a lot of people see younger people that are parents that are not being responsible enough and that is probably where there judgement comes from.
Congrats on being such strong people and good luck with your family..

Well you know what it is?

Its not the age of the person that we can be rude about on here sometimes. The most annoying thing for me to read here is when teenage mums say :
" Oh I am pregnant with my second/third/ fourth child and I just dont know what to do!"

or

" I am a second time mum and I am 15 and I am proud to have left school. My baby daddy is in jail and I have been puking. Do you think I am pregnant?"

Those are only 2. I can type some more but I wont bore you.

Its not the teenagers that I cant stand. Its the STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE that I don't like. And you know what, they come in all ages.

But I have to say good for you. YOu seem to have your head and heart and priorities in the right places.

If I met you, I would think you are taking on a lot and possibly making a mistake.  I might also just walk away in the middle of your speech though, so who knows.

Maybe she couldn't support herself and her child? I didn't read the post you are talking about, but maybe she is living with her parents and having them support her? That is the sort of thing that makes people angry. If you can take care of your child and support him/her, then more power to you.
But being a parent who does not work, doesn't have a degree, and lives off their parents shouldn't have another baby.

A lot of people aren't reponsible like you guys. You seem to be doing an amazing job though. I feel the same way sometimes. I'm not as lucky as you for my boyfriend left me so I do get benefits such as WIC and ACCHS. I am only 20 and I will have 4 kids. But, I graduated high school early and I usually work (my doc reccomended that I don't work right now) But I think you are right. People are too quick to judge!!!

it unfortunate but so many young moms are so immature and dont take care of their babies that it takes away from the good momma like urself... i have a friend u started having babies at a young age and even thought ahe is the best mother i know so many people thought she would be a terrible mother and that her mom and dad would be raising her kids....

There are definitely young parents who CAN and DO take care of the children on their own without assistance from parents, the government, etc... And I have NOTHING bad to say about those of you who do it. More power to you! It isn't easy no matter how old you are and to do it at a young age is really impressive. The teen pregnancies I have a problem with are the ones who are NOT mature enough to realize the consequences of their actions and expect their parents and / or the government to pay their bills. THAT is a huge problem for me, especially when they get pregnant multiple times without having a way to support themselves or their children. But you know what? I have a problem with that whether the "parent" is 14 or 40. I don't think that people should judge a young parent solely on age. They should be judged like everyone else. On maturity and their ability to provide for themselves and their offspring.

MAN we suck! We have good credit, 5% in the bank and years of credit...but since the freaking real estate market has crashed, it's STILL not good enough lately (but was told that 4 months ago we would have been fine). I suck at life...
