They'll give you pitocin to get you dilating. The gel is just to soften your cervix. They give the Pitocin in an IV so it doesnt hurt, the IV does, but the pit doesnt. you dont feel dilating, just contractions that make you dilate, and they hurt like hell. everyone is different on how long it takes to dilate.
Basically what to expect, the doctors move fast, and you'll be in pain

Inducing?
Isnt that where they give you pitocen?
Thats the only thing Ive heard of
Never heard of a gel
And Ive heard it hurts more to be induced because they force contractions...

maybe your baby will come sooner ..youve got over a week.
its different for everyone.. it might go fast or slow. i didnt hurt while dilating until they broke my water. you'll create your own experience and depending on what you pain tolerance is we cant tell you!
just dont think that its gonna go really quick .. expect a long labor and be surprised if it isnt! lol

I was induced because I was not progressing enough on my own. Don't know about the gell, but the other they put in my IV and it sucks. Makes labor harder and def painful! I had a nurse say, "now who turned that up so high?" The had a constant dose for me. My advice, get an epi

Enduce?
Exspect?
I got pitocin.
Took me 12 hours to dilate to 10 cm.
The gel isn't a shot.
They put it on your cervix, i'm pretty sure.
It's painful as hell when you dilate.
Peeing helped my dilate my last cm.

i had been induced with the pitocin and it was terrible!! contractions were 10x stronger! but the epi takes care of that as long as it doesnt take long to dialate.

I was told by an l&d nurse that pitocin does NOT make contractions any STRONGER than your body naturally would.
It just makes them come closer together, leaving less time to relax inbetween
making labor harder

okay, not really sure what the gel is, but as for being induced, i'll tell you what my experience was. i went in a 10 at night, the put cervadil in, it's a pill to soften the cervix. apparently the pill can start labor as a side effect. after the second one was put it i started labor and my water broke. i had really bad bad labor, but that's not always the norm. they started the pitocin and gave me some drugs. i highly reccomend skipping all other drugs and going straight for the epi. they did nothing but make me loopy. after the epi i didn't feel anything, plus it help me relax and dialate, i went from 4cm to 10cm in 20 minutes! pitocin is apparently not bad for everyone, my best friend was induced and we sat and talked through her labor like any other day up until an hour before she delivered.

True.
You're lucky if you get to breath inbetween contractions.
