I'm not sure who told you that, but that most definitely isn't true.

I have one and it is accredited and accepted by colleges. I think some are and some aren't. You just have to look into it when finding a school. I liked it becuase I just did work when I had time and felt like it. I moved in the middle of HS and didn't really care about graduating with a bunch of people I didn't know. So online was great for me.

My little sister dropped out of HS and did her senior year thru schooling you did thru the mail. She dropped out of HS cause she lacked ONE credit to graduate and they school was going to make her attend all day for one credit. She could be working to earn $$ instead of attending school all day.

She finished her schooling a few months before her classmates and got a dipolma from a "accredited" HS.

She went to become an alarm techinician and no one has ever questioned her dipolma.

I know my sister didn't have anyone to help her "cheat"..but she had friends that took the same class later on and had others do their work.

Now i finished HS and got my dipolma.. No one has ever asked to see it..I actually am not 100% sure where its even at.. I think tucked inside my senior yearbook.

I think highschool should be done in a school. Online study is for those who have the diligence and self-motivation to teach themselves, accomplish things on time and are honest. Althought a college student isn't more trustworthy, I feel that online classes should be reserved for legal adults.

Adults have more complicated lives, such as full time jobs, children (sometimes multiple), spouses, etc. A teenager by practical standards, shouldn't have the above, although times have changed and they do. I'm a mom of three and have to figure out a way to juggle full time college around my family and personal needs. If I can do it, so can a teenager. Online classes are a luxury, in which even with college are not the best route.

I personally do not regard a GED the equivelent to a highschool diploma. A diploma shows that you stuck with school for at least 13 years. A GED says 'Hey, I dropped out and got this when it was convenient for me'. If the online study programs are offered through the local said highschool of the attending student or an accredited school, then yes, that is equivelant to a diploma, as long as all standard credits were met or passed. Although, I feel that testing should be done in testing facilities of say local colleges and not done online. (This was not intended to offend, but it's just the way I see a GED vs diploma).

You HAVE to have an High school diploma or a GED to enter the military, reguardless if they need recruits, they still have standards to uphold.

To answer the OP.

I believe online high school is mainly for lazy people who give up. (No I didnt say all)

However from my personal experiance...(my stepyounger brother and sister both) whom both just stopped going to school, just because school was an inconveiance (ms) in their day to day o-so-busy teenage lives. I think it can be a cop-out.
