This is wierd to me..

posted 26th Jun
this girl I know is pregnant and due in the end of July or August, she changes her due date constantly. She left me a comment on myspace asking me when my baby is coming so I told her my due date, then she told me that she will have her c section either the second or 3rd week of July. I asked her if her baby was breech and this is what she wrote back

no shes not, i just never wanted to push a baby out or go through the labor =)

I think its wierd that her doctors are going to give her a csection, just because she doesn't want to push the baby out or go through labor. Has anyone heard of dr's doing that?

Dr's get paid more for c-sections. If they are found to be giving to many of them (for medically irrelivent reasons) they can loose their lisence. My Dr tried to push a c-section on me and I refused. I can not understand for the life of me why someone would want to do a c-section as opposed to natural birth... The recovery is sooo much longer and more painful!

I have known several people to have their babies scheduled to be delivered because they don't want to "push it out".

I think its weird too, but it does happen. I just don't understand why anyone would want to opt for major surgery instead of pushing a baby out... thats what our bodies are made for!!!

That's how I feel but to each his own. I've never heard of a dr allowing that though. I guess all dr's are different.

My friend's doc just gave her a c-section even though nothing was wrong but in all fairness she had been trying a normal labor for a few hours before she gave up.

My SIL is having one even though there is nothing wrong with her second baby (yet), she had medical issues with her first so she is doing c-section instead of vbac.

So I guess there are varying levels of giving up and going for it but I personally plan to try normal vaginal first.

I think a repeat c-section is a totally different situation. Vbacs have far more risk than a regular vaginal birth. I would like to try a vbac, but they don't do them here.

Exactly, for something like that I think it's normal and not just giving up.

I really feel like that is completely selfish.

If there is medical necessity then go for it, but to choose a major surgery like c-section because you dont 'feel like pushing' is idiotic.

Planned c-sections had an overall rate of severe morbidity 27.3 per 1000 deliveries compared to 9 per 1000 planned vaginal deliveries. Planned c-sections also had increased risks of cardiac arrests.

Planned C-sections have a higher rate of lower birth weights for babies as well.

IMO I understand if its twins and there might be complications but I think doing it natural is the best thing to do. I just can't think of someone cuting my belly lol

I am sorry... lol... but i am NOT pushing out two babies... I KNOW it can be done... but i am just not doing it... and about every single person that i know that have kids (which is alot around me) all of them have had c-sections... maybe it is just the area that I am in that it is just what happends here...

I also... do not think I am being selfish... or idiotic at all... I am doing this for my babies... thank you very much...
