Does this make you trust a business more or less?

posted 26th Jun
My family (not me) owns a flooring company. I help my cousin out with the design of her business card and other things. Her and I have an ongoing argument about whether or not they should put "Christian owned" along with the little fish on the card.

I personally trust a business less when they advertise an affiliation with a certian religion. I feel as though they are using their religion to say that they are honest. IMO anyone christian or not can lie and rip me off.

She argues that it will make people more likely to trust them and come to them because people will know that they are honest hard working people. I think they will know that by word of mouth advertising and through their work as a company, not soley because they are Christian.

What are your opinions?

personally, i dont care about religion so long as they do the job right. I agree with you, by putting that up it seems like they are trying too hard to prove that they are trustworthy. Its like a person making a point to say "im not a liar" out of nowhere- kinda makes you wonder why they HAD to say that

I never really looked at it that way, I always looked at it as if they were proud to show they were Christian owned?? I don't know that their beliefs would make me trust them anymore or less??

I personally don't shop at places that say "christian owned" unless I absolutely have to. You're right, anyone can lie and rip you off, christian or not. I also think it aleinates customers of other religions and backgrounds.

Any one can say they practice a certain religion--put it on a sign or business card... But that doens't mean anything. I have a friend who's a Christian when it suits him. One minute he's telling us we should go to church and believe in God and the next he's drunk off his ass and telling the cashier at Burger King to show him her tits... Claiming affiliation with a certain religion is useless. I actually frown upon it becuase that's like using your religion (if it IS your religion) to increase your profit.

hmmm. I wouldn't say it would make me trust them more or less. When I see something like that I generally won't call   I don't want to associate religion with flooring or a/c repair etc. Family owned will make me trust them more but the religion thing and a picture of the whole family (I see that a lot) makes me feel like they are guilty me into calling lol. I am strange though!

I am with you. I trust a business less when they advertize their religion. Actually, maybe its not trust so much as it annoys the crap out of me.

There is a little mail boxes ect type place by my house that I ran into a few months back. I had never been in there before but i like to support locally owned businesses so I thought I would give it a try. I went in and they were BLASTING Jesus Loves me music and had christian stuff EVERY where on the walls. I felt very uncomfortable and very annoyed. I have not gone back.

Good point! Would some give you substandard service once they find out you are Muslim or Jewish?

I get what you mean when you said that you would trust them less; if they put their religion on a card its like they are trying to say "Im better because I believe in Jesus" To me it doesnt matter....we are all human beings and people make mistakes...so I wouldnt trust them more or less.

Exactly! I remember seeing a Christian owned car dealership. I would not set foot there. I trust no sales person. I used to be one, I know how they work. I will trust a christian salesperson even less. If they were truely christian and a successful sales person then there is just something wrong there. All sales people lie or twist the truth. It is a fact.
