posted 25th Jun '08
Good Morning America did a segment on the AMA resolution, and I wanted to post it here for those who are interested.

I didn't read the article, but some would argue that home birth is more safe than a hospital birth.

personally, i couldnever do one. im always afraid something will happen that you need drs and their medical equipment quickly, and you dont have the amenities at your own home.
i know homebirths have been around since the dawn of time....but i think theres a reason why stillbirths and mothers dying during the birth are such low numbers these days.
but for those who can do them, all the power to ya

I think doctors now a days are really quick to yell emergency. C-sectionsand inductions are out of control. I think that if you've had good prenatal care, an uneventful pregnancy and no health complications, a home birth is a wonderful, beautiful thing. I'll always regret not having one myself. My mom had home birth with my 10lb 15oz brother!

statistically there are more deaths/problems with hospital births than home births. i am kicking myself because i don't remember where i found this information.... i would like to quote my source so it doesn't sound like i'm talking out of my butt.   but it's true.

if we weren't in an apartment i'd love to do a home birth. i'm just too self conscious to do it here- i'm worried about the neighbors hearing and about making a mess. haha.

check out this website for some awesome info on home births... i'm not totally keen on some of the techniques (there's a lot of spirituality new agey stuff that i don't really buy into) but the stories and info are amazing.

I plan for unassisted with my 2nd.

oh, cool! i hope someday my hubby and i own our own place and we can rent a waterbirth tub. i love the idea of waterbirths- a friend of mine had home births with waterbirth tubs for two of hers and she loved it.
i'm hoping unassisted as well. i am giving birth at a hospital but i have a wonderful midwife and i'm hoping to labor in the tub for as long as possible and utilize a better position for the birth than the "flat on your back" method, which is the least logical position for a woman to give birth.

here's another good one for anyone who's interested- it has a ton of info on hospital vs homebirth safety...

Interesting...I was just telling my husband that I plan on a home birth for my next child. I have already had two uneventful natural childbirths and hated the hospital "atmosphere." I think its a great idea for those open to it. I also agree that the docs and hospitals push and push for inductions like crazy.

I planned on a home birth the second time as well...i had a perfect pregnancy and birth the first time at the hospital... I did all natual birth and made sure to birth at a hospital that was "baby friendly" (meaning the baby never leaves your room) and it was great! because i did so well the first tim with my 8lbs 14oz baby girl... i looked into home birth/ birthing centers this time... its crazy exspensive ($6-$15,000 ) and not covered by my insurance at all! so im going wih the "baby friendly" hospital again! with all the research ive done... the most important thing is that the baby doesnt leave your side! skin to skin contact (tummy to tummy) is the very best thing for a newborn! and majority of hospitals want to take the baby away... the second its born for 1/2 to 2 hours! to run tests, give them a bath, weigh, ect. but there all procedures that can be done on you or close by in your room! Infants can smell there mother in the room!

Ive seen two movies about home bith that are really great!

Good Luck!

oh yeah the best movie /book for after birth!
