I understand that, I just don't think that the Bible addresses things the way people make them out to mean, and the fact that you have to jump all over the Bible in order to form a complete understanding of any one moral is weak of it. It also leads to a lot of contradiction, and since the Bible is the word of God, and God is infallible, then the contradictions in the Bible are complete paradox. The logical conclusion from that, them, is that the Bible is not the word of God. However, if the Bible is to be read front to cover, in that order, we see that God changes on a lot of moral issues, and in this logic, God is fallible.
...I'm not sure where I was going with that, other than it irks me when people use lines from one chapter to explain the meaning of stories in a completely different chapter.

We have to look all over to get the complete understanding because say when Paul wrote letters to the Corinthians they would have known the background already, we have to read what he wrote to the corinthians and then find the background on it.

Not all the stories in the Bible are God's word. Some are the storiesof the Apostles of Jesus. Which arent God's word, they are stories handed down generations about their journey's with Jesus. Moral tales per se, not directly God's word

Not trying to tell anyone whats right or wrong....Just want to say the Quran has almost the exact same story. In the Quran the people of Sadam and Gomorrah were destroyed for homosexuality along with other sins such as gambling, incest, rape, murder....other immoral acts. Oh and in the Quran Lot does not have sex with his daughters. He was a prophet and therefore is free of any sins- Prophets are supposed to be examples of how Godly people live so the whole incest thing......
Other nations were destroyed for the same reasons. In Italy there were 2 cities destroyed by Mount Vesuvious - God said he would preserve their bodies to be a lesson to mankind - the volcanic debris actually did preserve their bodies, there are very interesting pictures if anyone wants to look it up. The cities are tourist attractions now.
Before I get a bunch of hate replies I just want to say I'm not hating on gay people. People are free to do what they like whatever it may be.

I think that people that use this story as their prime example for stating that homosexuality is wrong do not know the Bible in detail. Of course, those same people that would point out the sin in others do not know the Bible in detail.

In short, they are full of shit.  

I'll say something weather it's right or wrong.
I don't think God makes a distinction between homosexual or heterosexual sin. ALL premarital sex is a sin. We can assume though that homosexual sin is a big deal because of the numerous passages throughout the bible that specifically point that out. In God's eyes sin is sin. The homosexual is looked at the same as a thief the same as a liar. Because Jesus did once and for all, that covers ALL.

As for Sodom, God gave warnings to change from all their sinful acts. I like to think that had Abraham found 5 righteous people God would have prolonged His judgment. I believe He does that daily. I think the reason so many Christians associate Sodom with their greatest sin as homosexuality because its a "graphic" depiction of just many of their sins. They weren't just engaged in sexual sin, they were haughty, unloving, uncaring, selfish, arrogant individuals who after numerous warnings refused to turn from their wicked ways.

I once heard this: someone asked a pastor if he would welcome the homosexual into his church the pastor said "sure, I'd sit him right next to the liar and the thief" I wish ALL churches were like that. Jesus didn't come to save the holy, he came to save the unholy and that includes me. He didn't make a distinction. He hung out with the prostitute the tax man and the liar. If the main purpous of this text is to prove that Sodom wasnt destroyed because of homosexuality the debate would be continuous. But if we read into the story ofnoah and why the world was destroyed by water one of the many reasons why this occured was due to homosexuality so to deabate on wether Sodom was destroyed due to that particular fact is irrelevant either way the world was destroyed at one point because of homosexuality but i want to specify that God didnt destroy the world just for that reason in Sodom the same as in Genius hes states that the that the city was exceedingly wicked and if we are aware of what was considered wicked to God it would be very easy to understand.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV): "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." ( He is very specifically stateing what he considers wicked and it is HOMOSEXUALITY but NOT JUST HOMOSEXUALITY is the reason for him destroying Sodom. What i like to do when I point out homosexuality as a sin I think about what sins I commit that are specified in that text.
